Does Uk director employment count for RAV?

Hi

If my job is terminated with 6 months swiss contributions say, and i was a uk contractor working for my own company beforehand for years, would that count as Employment for RAV purposes?
Digging further, i had alot of time off during that period as a contractor for different reasons, but was still technically employed by my own company with NI contributions ans a salary. I also had a secondary salary from self employment as well in an unrelated business in the UK.

Thanks

Probably not and certainly not if you owned 50.1% or more of your company.

Are you sure? I understood that while you're a company director you can't claim benefit, but if you close the company down entirely, then you can. You're just another ex-employee who's been contributing for x years.

Ownership of shares is the key i believe.

Unfortunately I’ve lost the contact, but I used to know someone who tried this and he got refused because his contributions would not entitle him to unemployment benefits in the UK if he still lived there. That is all I can recall.

It's certainly true that while you can effectively set your own salary, or are receiving significant income, you cannot claim. However, these threads indicate that if you close down your company entirely, and you've already paid in, then you are entitled to the benefit.

https://www.englishforum.ch/business...enefits-2.html
https://www.englishforum.ch/permits-...n-company.html

The last one contains this statement: As long as the company has not been liquidated and the entrepreneur still has management responsibility (as a board member, unlimited partner or controlling shareholder), there is no entitlement to unemployment compensation.
which is a translation from https://www.kmu.admin.ch/kmu/fr/home...homage-ac.html

Contractors can claim JSA between contracts. See psychocandy's posts in forums.contractoruk.com
