Salary for a Nanny

Hello,

I have been a nanny for six years in Canada and have almost completed an Early Childhood Education diploma. I am in the process of finding a nanny position here.
I am wondering what would is an acceptable hourly rate to charge for 4 kids (under the age of 7 years) in Switzerland?

Thank you!

Re: Salary for a Nanny

Absolute minimum 5500/month for a 45 hour working week...and regular holidays.

For four kids, by yourself, without the chance to take breaks... permanent, full time... you should be paid more than that... 6000+

if you took an early childhood degree and worked in a Swiss kindergarten, you would certainly get more than 6000, for 42 weeks with the children, and 25 hours face-to-face teaching per week...

Re: Salary for a Nanny

To be honest, unless you have an EU nationality to call on, you won't get a job here. It's strictly forbidden for nannies from 3rd countries to be hired directly by someone in Switzerland.

You could possibly try through an approved Swiss agency, that's likely the only way you'd manage it.

Isn't that for "au-pairs" only, that is, people who aren't here already? OP's location is (presumably the Canton) BE.

Nope. From the link.

"Third countrie members can not be hired as a domestic helper/nanny, it is impossible to receive a permit. The only exceptions is for families that move to Switzerland and did have a domestic helper/nanny employed with them abroad."

That said, I see the OP is hopefully getting a permit via marriage/family reunification so none of the above would apply since they'll have a permit and live/work here.

Re: Salary for a Nanny

I already have a B permit, so working here is not an issue. I am just wondering about the salary.

I'd love it if we did pay that to people but as a nanny I think you can ask for around 28CHF per hour for multiple children.

It's not a question of "if", there's a legal minimum that nannies have to be paid. Unfortunately PerfectWay have changed their website around so that info isn't available any more, but it's around the 5.5k-6k mark per month iirc. Would probably be more for multiple children.

Re: Salary for a Nanny

Here are recommended hourly rates and monthly salaries for nannies, from the "Nanny Verein" (Association of Nannies).
https://nannyverein.ch/Dokumente_/Lo...li-20_copy.pdf

Without a specific qualification, without experience
Francs per hour 19.50 - 23.00
Monthly salary 3‘800 - 4‘100
Without a specific qualification, with experience
Francs per hour 23.00 - 26.00
Monthly salary 4‘100 - 4‘600
With a specific qualification, without experience
Francs per hour 25.00 - 30.00
Monthly salary 4‘385 - 5‘500
With a specific qualification, with a great deal of experience
Francs per hour 30.00 - 35.00
Monthly salary 5‘500 – 6‘500
Note that both the hourly and the monthly payments are specified as gross.
Vacation pay is due even to those paid on an hourly basis (naturally in proportion to the hours they work) and must be specified separately on the monthly pay-slip.
Monthly salaries are calculated for a 43-hour working week, with 4 weeks' vacation, and 12 monthly salaries.

Live in or out?
If the nanny lives in, and eats with the family or eats food supplied by the employer, then lodging and/or board are usually seens as part of her/his remuneration. According to that website, typically Fr. 990 per month. In other words, she would receive, paid out, her gross salary, minus deductions, minus this flat rate for board and lodging.

The following are listed in the table as qualifications:
Apologies to those in the French- and Italian-speaking parts of Switzerland; that was just as much as I could look up.
