Job oppurtunities

Hello Everyone,

I am from India and am willing to pursue MSc in Applied Mathematics. Currently I am looking for ETH Zurich and EPFL. I am concerned about the job oppurtunities in Switzerland after completion of masters. Also, some information regarding work visa will be helpful.

Hope to get replies soon.

Thank You

For the information on visa/permit, have a look in the permit section of the forum.

This information can be found on multiple threads in the forum.

Being from India, finding a job / gaining the right permit will be difficult after your studies.

So are you suggesting it is better to not opt for Switzerland ?

I'd suggest you focus on where you'll get the best study opportunities and final qualification, rather than where you want to end up working. It's a long way off still.

As previously mentioned, lots of other threads will tell you the details of what's allowed, like what sort of advantages you may get to find a job if you've studied here. Best to spend the time reading what's there before asking more questions here about what's already been covered.

Hello,

3rd country national here, it's easy to find a job if you're flexible to move to a new place within Switzerland after your studies

To make things easier, learn either German or French during your masters. Language courses are for free for students. For the rest of the people outside universities, 800-1000 CHF per module. There are companies that hire people that does not know any Swiss national language (e.g. ABB, Oracle), but the contract terms and working conditions are below average.

In the university they also offer other 2 things at not cost for students: (i) job fairs, and (ii) coaching on how to find a job. After my studies, I found my job in this event https://www.polymesse.ch/en/ The EPFL has a similar event https://www.forum-epfl.ch/en/ The university also offered a course on how to land a job: CV adapted to CH cultural sensibilities, get used to phone interviews, what and what not to say in an interview, how to negotiate salaries, etc. The most important, do not desperate after sending 30 CVs, 10 interviews and 6 months of search.....it's normal.

The hardest part to get the residence permit is to get accepted either to ETH or EPFL. Foreign scholarships are usually not enough to cover the living expenses in Switzerland. Therefore you need to provide "evidence of sufficient financial means" to get the permit. ETH has a handy guide for foreign students (last update August 2019):

https://ethz.ch/content/dam/ethz/mai...-master-en.pdf

Basically, you need to show an account with 21,000 CHF in any bank with a retail branch in Switzerland.

In my experience having an MSc will do nothing extra in terms of your potential for employment.

Having a PhD may do - depending on the field, MBA also - depending on whether it's a well-regarded school - but MSc - nah.

Really? You can find good jobs here with a Masters. Not everyone wants to go for a PhD, an MBA you can always do later when you have work experience.
