Non-german speaker looking for a media agency role in Zurich or Basel

Hi all,

I'm looking to move to Switzerland to be with my long-term, long distance boyfriend (who is a Swiss native), however really seem to be struggling getting anywhere when applying for jobs in the media industry, I've been trying for months but have had no luck so far at even getting an interview.

I have a Bachelor Degree with Honours in Sports Journalism and currently work for a top company in England as a Marketing and Communications Executive (have been for 3 years).

If anyone has any advice or experience in this area, or knows of any job openings at a media agency/company in either Zurich or Basel for an English native who can't currently speak German (but is more than willing to learn!) that would be great.

Thank you so much for your help

Ash

Welcome to the forum.

Honestly, without a Swiss language or two even you're going to struggle against others who do have those. What can you offer that they can't? Nothing atm.

There's also an emphasis to hire people who already live/work here if possible so that's Swiss nationals and those people who have permits granting them those rights.

Maybe your boyfriend should look at the possibility of a concubine permit. This is for unmarried hetreosexual couples. You'd need to prove a long term, committed relationship of several years and he'd need to agree to be financially responsible for you for 5 years. With that permit you might be able to work, but he'd need to check that with the cantonal migration office.

Out of interest do you think your current employer would be excited to hire a German speaking only colleague to work with you in the UK? Outside a couple of international positions, most employers are going to expect that you can at least communicate with your colleges in the local language.

Best advice is to get the finger out and start learning German.

These Swiss job search spiders return a number of communications jobs in English (especially, indeed.ch). For additional results, try searching on other key words:

https://www.indeed.ch/jobs?q=communications&l=

https://www.jobagent.ch/search?terms=communications

https://jobsuchmaschine.ch/de/jobs/?...on=&seed=28449

Don't give up, you only need one job!
