What you are talking about is self employed/one man company and to meet that criteria in Switzerland, Ireland, the UK etc... you must simultaneously service several clients, not one at time.

You mean, have several clients within a single tax year, right? At least that's how it works here.

Within reason, but you must have overlaps to meet the criteria.

Is there a list of these criteria (in English, preferably)?

But why? Consultants charge fees for knowledge on regulations that's readily available in the internet. If only someone made a translation to English......everything would be sooooo simple /sarcasm

If you’ve had to sit down with a tax inspector to discuss corporate taxes, you’d know they very much do! One of the big tax avoidance options for the ‘one man’ company is the 2nd pillar pension fund, so they can be come very interested in the situation

No - with a GmbH one will be employed by his own company and therefore you have to pay 2nd pillar contributions, just like every employee.

The authorities look at the whole setup. If you have multiple clients at the same time, that's good. But they might consider you just have multiple employers depending on other things. Conversely, you might have sequential clients, but only one at a time, but dependent on other things, you are self-employed. It's not clear cut, and sometimes it's not law - it's rules that may or may not be correct, or correctly applied.

Source: experience. Most members of my family have been self-employed at sometime with quite different circumstances.
