pregnancy, work and salary

Hi All,
i am pregnant (with some complications). My doctor wrote me off from work for a week for last week, and from this week on for 50% at least for a 2-3 weeks period. HR is now telling me that this means that from the 1st day of my "sickness" =from last week on, now i will be getting only 90% of my salary. well, for the 50% work i will get a bit more than 90% salary, but still not 100%. My due date for the delivery is in2,5 monhts.
This sounds very strange to me as a few years back when i was sick and in a hospital for 2 weeks, my salary was not reduced at all, i got the whole 100%.
why would i get less when i am on sickleave now due to being pregnant? (i was so confused by what HR was saying i did not address this question to them...)
Is this OK like this or shall I really inquire why it is so?

This sounds dodgy, salary should not be reduced for sickness leave.

Depends on the insurance, 90% is fairly common during sickness leave.

It is normally 80%, so 90% is great.

Most of the times it's 80% according to gov't website but some companies may offer more (usually for a limited time). In any case this should be on your contract or other HR documents available to you. I would check those before inquiring. It's possible they changed the rules over the years.

I was told that the paid maternity leave will be 80%.

indeed, my company might have also changed it, because last year when i have asked about this ( when i informed them about my pregnancy), they told me that until 3 months of sickleave i get 100 %, and only if it is more, then will be the salary reduced...but they did not give me anything in writing anyway.

it's fine, i have no choice...just wanted to see what others think about this...thank you!
