Public Holidays whilst on sick leave

Hi, I searched around and couldn't find anything so.....

If you are on official sick leave (signed off) during notice period then any holidays you have are "postponed" until you are fit to work - this makes sense. What happens to public holidays like 24/25 Dec and 01/02 Jan?

I'm assuming that these days are lost, but a work colleague of mine suggests that, in this case, the 4 public holidays are added to your holiday entitlement, which I think is weird, and probably wrong. Any ideas on what the law is?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about "the law" as such, but I've been in that situation several times over the years and for sure the public holidays are not added to one's annual leave entitlement.

Great, thanks for the answer. The alternative would be madness.

You are not compensated for being signed off sick on a public holiday, same way as you don't get an additional day off if the public holiday falls on a weekend.

Thanks, and that's how I imagined it and how it should be.

It's the same as if you are sick on the weekend, you don't get extra days off.
