It is probably lesser question of the age, more question of the actual salary. Over 50 and not expensive get hired.

nope. You need a certification in dishwashing for doing that, so they won't take Astro Physicists because they do not have the right diploma

goes same for Post and Migros

It's been quite often the case. As long as the person is enrolled in a particular dishwashing course.

True, but that is his style. Check it out. It is a true story....

WRT to boredom : I like your style omtatstat, but here you are trolling : only stupid people get bored.
Since I retired @ 56 I dont know how I could ever have worked, so much to do, so much to see, it is endless. I could live to 200 and still find things that interest me....

Well a certificate in dishwashing in Switzerland would not be surprising.

I personally know two persons looking for work, trying to work at Migros, Coop, Ottos, McDonalds, Aldi, Lidl, Post and being systematically rejected or receiving no answers at all. No pun intended. Sometimes the interviewer says the the person does not know enough German even without having a decent conversation with the person. Or says they are over-qualified. Or writes back that somebody else is a better match for the job.

So while working at a cafe would be probably in the U.S. or somewhere else a viable option, in Switzerland it is not easy to actually get to work at one.

The part with the dishswashing certification is actually a joke but most probably some of these shops even look for Detailhandelsfachmann EFZ to fill in the vacancies.

Knowing a lot of people in 'Big Pharma' in Basel I think, subjectively, that there is a trend of taking out a lot jobs at 140k+ (typically 50+) and looking to outsource and/or hire in 'on the cheap'.
I was one of those in Big Pharma who was re-orged out of Basel. Around 6 months after my garden leave, I was contacted by a contracting agency for the exact same job, that paid much less and was only offered on a 6-10 months basis. Plenty of people out there willing to take such a deal...

Now I'm in another Big Pharma company where they are constantly outsourcing top jobs to very qualified medics in Bangalore, India.

Not looking good for us...

precisely. to be able to enroll for the apprentissage your need to find first a Lehrstelle, if you don't find the Lehrstelle you cannot do the yr apprentissage.

You cannot make out of a minister of transportation a competent minister of finance. Otherwise our system of services would have collapsed.

There are a lot of free places for people who want do an apprenticeship in restauration as you called it.
Keep in mind, there's more to it than just dishwashing (I had the opportunity to act as a guest during the last final exams)

Re: Trend of unemployment?

Early retirement? Well, my father in law retired nearly 30 years ago at the age of 57 on an excellent final salary pension and within a year had taken a labouring job on a building site as he was bored stiff.
