How many unemployed in Switzerland as a result of Covid-19?

Hi,

Does anyone have a statistic about how many have lost their jobs as a result of Covid-19 in Switzerland?

I just wondered how the professional services industry is doing over there now?

Best,

Peter

Over there? Where?
What do you mean by professionel services?

Yes, there is a lot of Kurzarbeit (short work) going on.

Who are you, and where are you to make such a post with the wording „over there“? Currently we’re flattening the curve (and it‘s even going down). But we‘re cautious as always, and hope it will continue this way.

So our chances of getting back to a functioning professional services industry currently look a tiny bit better than many countries. But Switzerland has always been cautious, so it will do it after a great deal of thinking and planning ahead.

Any more questions?

All the OP did was ask a few questions. Why such an aggressively-toned response?

Wonder when factual information started to be labeled „aggressive“ or „nasty“

Some Predictions say, das unemployment could rise in the area of 7 %, in a newspaper they wrote , you can add up your salary hurt by the corona crises, working in logistics or on a farm , harvesting aspargus or strawberries.

In the USA 16.6 Million people lost their job in the last 3 weeks......

General stats here: https://www.amstat.ch/v2/fr/index.html

Any information with a finer level of detail is considered an asset, ask a consultant :D

As a professional service consultant offering a freebie: fine, thanks for asking. Just working from home. Clients still ask and receive offers. Missed the end of the ski season and missing now a few beers on a sunny terrace but fine.

It is way to early to say how any of this pans out... I'd expect it will be at least 18 months before all the current aid packages start to wash out and we can start to get a feel for how things might look.

Hi Peter!

Unlike the States, Switzerland has certain employee protection rules.
Most employees have an average lay off period of 3 months. However the range is usually anywhere between 1 to 6 months depending on the position and time employed at a company. Currently many companies, due to forced business closings, have put employees on temporary hold which means they are still officially employed but receive a portion of their salary via state support.

Hope this answers your question.

Rob.

Professional services industry? Probably almost no-one lost their jobs unless their company has gone bust. It's not the service industry and most people have laptops and can work from home.

Isn't this the only thing you can actually do these days? :msnsarcastic:

In one big company where I work, we put a hiring ban and cancelled all new temporary contracts due to begin this year (i.e. internships and external services). Also cut project budgets and investments where possible. Permanent staff is fine so far, nobody got fired or put on kurzarbeit.

I also heard that some people (not in my company, though) had to go down from 100 to 80 or 60% since childcare is shut down.

I honestly think there may be some economy sectors where it is a golden time to look for work (if you have the work permit), since you only compete with internal Swiss applicants these days.
