Working at BIS (Basel)

Hi!

Does anyone have any experience of working at the Bank for International Settlements in Basel?

Would love to know more about the working culture and benefits there.

Thanks!!

Re: Working at BIS (Basel)

All I know it it's tax free income and they have diplomatic immunity. OH knows someone from the UK who is there and hates it, but this person doesn't like Basel either.

Re: Working at BIS (Basel)

You'll find that the employment contract has a pretty stringent NDA, so I doubt anyone will be too keen to talk about it online.

All I know is if you go to work there (and you live in Basel (or CH)) it's considered the same thing as working 'abroad' with all that that implies.

You don't get diplomatic immunity by working for BIS. And depending on how you are recruited and the contract you are give you may be exempt from Swiss income taxes. This does not mean that you will not have to pay income taxes in the state of your citizenship. It depends on how they treat citizens who receive salaries from diplomatic missions.

I have known people that did both.

Re: Working at BIS (Basel)

We had a guy who worked there in our German class for 6 months, he said he had diplomatic immunity (he was Bangladeshi, had been here 10 years).
