What is the card ?

Hello Friends,
One of the employer is asking me to present my "card" to continue my employment interview.

I have already shown her my B permit but she keeps insisting on "card". I failed to understand what she means by "show me ur card" question ?

Is there anything else I need to produce outside B permit for employment in Swiss ?

Thanks in advance.

Sabrina

Is it possible that you have the paper B-Permit and she's expecting to see the credit card style one? Is it a large company who has experience with non Swiss employees in Switzerland?

Re: What is the card ?

Its large company based in Zurich. Yes I have a paper B permit. Does it mean I need to get a "card" one too ? Is there any difference between 2 which can impact my employment ?

In honesty, that's the only card I could think of that might be related to employment. From what I know there is no difference between the card and paper permits. I think they are replacing the paper with the cards, my paper one has another while to go yet though so I can offer no more information.

I hope someone more knowledgeable turns up to help!

Non-EU are getting theirs first. Don’t know if your Canton has got to the EUs yet. Ask your commune.

Re: What is the card ?

Maybe your AHV card? Or your insurance card that has the AHV number on it?

Re: What is the card ?

She might be asking for your AVS/AHV card which is now a part of your health insurance card.
Show her your health insurance card and see if that’s what she means.

Ah no, show her all your cards in a spinning rolodex until she spots the one she wants. It's win win, you show all the weird business cards, gym memberships and loyalty programs you've accumulated, she gets the card she wants.

Non-EU/EFTA already have the pink/blue common EU residence format card for a long time.

EU/EFTA people will get the green/blue Swiss format card.

Right. Have her stop the rolodex spontaneously, let her have three chances. If she doesn't pick the right card she lost the chance to employ you.

Seriously, who wants to work for somebody who can not express herself but keeps repeating the same word over and over?
I bet she says it louder each time. Some Swiss people deeply believe that if foreigners don't understand something it's because they're deaf.
That can end in them still not understanding each other but the foreigner actually being deaf.

Re: What is the card ?

It is always a good idea to ask the HR employee to tell you in German what they are requiring, so that you avoid to be "lost in translation". It is not uncommon that, with the best intentions, an employer is asking for some additional documentation to complete your file, but in the spirit of GDPR always ask what they need that information for.

Only the person who has asked you to provide the care is going to be able to tell you what they mean, so ask them. It could be a trick question to see how you deal with the situation for all we know.

Or possibly in French in this case as they’re in Fribourg and it may be a french speaking company.

She mentioned it is "a large company based in Zurich" so I guess it would be german. But good point, in case the company is based in another region!

UPDATES :-

So i checked with HR as people suggested here but she refused to tell me any more details about the card. Her email was "I need card to proceed furthur"..
No we are so confused as if we are short of any more govt document. Also little scared if we are not eligible to work there without this card...

This sounds absolutely idiotic - on the HR part.
Don't you have a German speaking friend who can call them and ask WTF she's talking about?
I would be highly annoyed by now. (Glad you seem to keep your cool )
