Contracting Vs Permanent Salaries

Hi,

I've been asked to suggest an hourly rate for a contract IT position in Basel. Looking through the forum, I think 50CHF looks to be about average for a permanent worker in this position but I've no idea how contract rates compare in Switzerland.

Can anyone tell me how how contract rates normally compare to permanent rates? Does that alter if the contract is for 12 months +?

Thanks!

Re: Contracting Vs Permanent Salaries

Will vary on your job, skills, company etc....

As a contractor:

You don't get paid for Holidays and/or sick leave.
You pay Employers and Employees deductions.

You also don't get 'Staff' benefits (normally) i.e. subsidised Canteen etc..

Employer contributes to employee's pension plan. Contractors must fund themselves. Also contractors may have a VAT liability.

For software developers we calculate:

Permanent: 100CHF per hour at a minimum
Contractor: 125 - 140CHF to the agent (contracter gets 80 - 90%)

Best Regards,

Jim

Re: Contracting Vs Permanent Salaries

I agree with Jim2007 on rates ratio but also take into consideration that if working for a "Large company" when jobs are cut..contracted staff are usually the first out of the door. This has happened to quite a few friends of mine.Plus you dont get the benefits of permanent staff which can be substantial at times....

And a stand up comedian.

You'll be better as permie at Big Bank.
Dunno about Used-to-be Big Bank.

Hired help rates have been cut. Again. We've had a fair number leave.

Have they got contractors down to sub-fifty an hour yet?
