Unemployment benefit 12 months contribution within last 2 years

Hi all

More for my information. Just arrived in Geneva a few months ago. In the event of redundancies etc... (I am in the finance sector so we are never too far off from a crisis)

I read that you need to have contributed to the caisse du chomage for twelve month in the last two years. Does that mean if I started my job on day one when I arrived and I am made redundant in a year with 12 months of full contributions I can benefit from unemployment? Or do I need to have lived 2 years in the country for this?

I asked my colleagues but they are all Swiss so had no idea.

The RAV website arbeit.swiss has FAQs in languages D, F, I and E which should answer your questions:

FAQ sur l’assurance-chômage et les services compétents

12 months is fine, however if you have worked in the EU in the last 24 months that will be added to your entitlement so with luck you will have worked for 18 months in the last 24 months .

If you have two years employment with an employer but have two months unpaid sick leave in the last six months and 3 months unpaid sick leave in the previous 6 months (in total 5 months unpaid sick leave over two half years) how would that be treated by RAV?
