If this is trough the agency then I would say it is not the rate that taken a dive it is agencies that become super greedy. I approve and review IT vendor contractors in pharma all the time and the going rate is 140h for IT developer mid level. However if working through employer or the agent you'd see 85h of it. Agencies in CH lost their mind lately.

Must be that

Thats because nobody in IT wants to work for Pharma, an industry not exactly known to be that open to new IT ideas... same is true for insurances, especially re-insurances. Going rate for Zurich banks is around 800 a day for a mid level developer, the agency likes to keep 200 of that.

600-700 is therefore in line with what I have heard and seen... and I have actively recommended qualified people to not accept it. If Zurich pays just marginally better than the EU do the high costs easily catch up with the tax advantage...

Looks like they learned from the securities dealers: "buy low, sell high"

That might have been true in the past but with Big Data, Machine Learning, Digital Biomarkers and many other innovations Pharma is a place to be. Not to mention you actually contributing to something important and essential addressing unmet needs of humanity.
