LinkedIn | Keywords | ATS | SEO
I have just spent the best part of a week reading, digesting, updating and optimising my LinkedIn profile so that it is fit for purpose in 2020. I first joined this site back in March 2004 when there were less than 1m subscribers and life was a lot simpler then!
Now it's a total minefield and there are so many tips and tricks to optimise your profile so it's found by recruiters or others that it's mind boggling and bordering on insanity. The craziest one has to be editing the filename of your photo or background image not as Joe Bloggs - Bio Photo but as something like this:
Joe Bloggs | Analyst | SEO Expert | ex ABB | Baden | Innovator
...so that it's SEO compliant and thus you have a better chance of your profile being read and people reaching out to you for jobs and/or networking. Top Tip: If you have Kindle Unlimited then there are a ton of books on improving your LinkedIn profile you can read as part of your monthly fee. Too many to choose from and a lot of dross but I read about 15 in total taking snippets from each. There is no quick fix and you need to invest time and energy. Having seen some of the prices charged to do this by so called professionals I'm clearly in the wrong gig...
I would welcome any other tips/comments or LinkedIn groups that people find useful.
