Cost of being a private piano teacher in Zürich

I am relatively new to Switzerland, I moved in from abroad 6 months ago to Zürich. I would like to start giving private piano lessons. I have read this post and it was really helpful, but now I am wondering about the monetary cost. How can I know how much will I have to pay on taxes? I am interested in knowing both one time payments (e.g. for registration) and recurrent payments (e.g. some percentage of my income).

Re: Cost of being a private piano teacher in Zürich

You will need to register as self-employed with SVA Zürich which is normally done a short time after you have started your business, i.e., after giving piano lessons a few times to customers. SVA Zürich will organize a UID enterprise number for you. See this link for more information (German):

For social charge rates for self-employed, please see this AHV flyer, pp. 3-6 (English):

https://www.ahv-iv.ch/p/2.02.e

For income and capital taxes, this tax calculator can be used (German):

Good luck to you!

You need to check if your permit will allow you to be self-employed or not. That's the first step.

Re: Cost of being a private piano teacher in Zürich

I think Mullhollander's post above pretty much covers it.
