Domestic Help Employment requirements

Hi,

I would like to ask information for legal employment of domestic helper, as I have heard many different stories.

1. If you have found someone for housekeeping/ironing assistance for 4hr/week , how do you settle the employment relationship?

2. Is it mandatory to have employment contract and payslips and pay withholding taxes and insurances when it is 16hr/monthly?
If yes how do you do this?

3. What if the helper holds AHV's certificate of self-employment?

4. If the domestic helper works in another company (with full or part time contract) and wants to work at your place on his free time , is this legal? Do you need to have employment contract and pay taxes and insurance?

5. What happened if the help is student with L permit , can he be hired?

Thank you.

Re: Domestic Help Employment requirements

You have to ensure that whoever you decide to employ holds a valid working permit for Switzerland (for one) and, yes, every hour must be declared.

Re: Domestic Help Employment requirements

It is also not permitted for you to be self-employed as a household helper. Your employer is the family that you work for.
