Speeding and Extract

Hi all

I have got a new job as a teacher and they have asked for a criminal record extract.

However I have got a speeding conviction which will show up on the extract.

Will that affect me getting the job?

Thanks

How fast were you going that it shows up on your criminal record?

Re: Speeding and Extract

I think the extract is only for child protection purposes.

You can't avoid it as it's a compulsory requirement now for Switzerland for child protection.

Anyway, the form gets sent to you first... you can see if there is actually the speeding offence on there, before you decide whether to proceed with your job application.

Personally, it would not impact me as a teaching recruiter unless I was going to rely on that person to drive a vehicle for work purposes...

poor observation I assume you got a vacation from driving?

I would treat the speeding as a conversation point and not a showstopper if I was hiring (and we do do background checks).

Are you sure that will show up on a criminal record check?
It was just the one wasn’t it?

Re: Speeding and Extract

I think it will only appear for maximum 6 months on your "regular" record (i never needed a "thorough" version for dealing with jobs in education/kids etc. Not my profession.). That was my experience. As someone mentioned, if you receive it first, you can check.

Re: Speeding and Extract

Crimes of violence, dishonesty or indecency would endanger your chances. Yours is only a crime of velocity, so I'd say you're safe.

Re: Speeding and Extract

https://www.ch.ch/en/driving-over-speed-limit/ says:

If you exceed the speed limit by 25 km/h in built-up areas, 30 km/h out of built-up areas or by 35 km/h on the motorway, the offence will be entered into the register of criminal convictions and will be appear for a certain period on extracts from the register.

Yours is 22, so maybe you're all good in the first place?
