Thanks for picking up on my poorly worded (apologies) post. Had hoped to elicit a response from Brian1985 who obviously got my goat and I think takes the biscuit.
My allusions to islands (tax havens, anybody?), near and far, was trying to be clever, I admit. Still like the tropical sun bit though. A bit tricky for me, if you’re commenting upon Switzerland’s lack of moral rectitude vis-à-vis my assumption of a British citizen being unaware of their own legislation, morals and tax havens.
OK, thanks for the clarification.

Point is/was, ALV/RAV benefits have nothing to do with outdated (old school) uninformed and sanctimonious bigotry – if you’re entitled to an insurance pay out, take it.
I agree with your conclusion but not necessarily the words that come before that.

Maybe I can ask one last question - Is it possible for me to take the UK job and retain my swiss address and if it does not work out come back to Switzerland and claim the RAV? I have heard of people who ask for six months of before claiming the RAV and I think this would be the best of both worlds. I would still be fine with the permit which expires in Mar 2022 and I feel like I would have given myself a chance to try the UK
This gets a bit complicated but I guess it's possible. To keep your Swiss address you obviously have to retain your apartment, health insurance and continue to pay your bills. If you do that, then I can't see any problem with the permit -- unless there's a rule about having to deregister if tax-resident in another country. Regarding RAV, you still have to satisfy the basic conditions which include working for 12 months in the previous 24 month period, and also leaving your job through no fault of your own. If you leave the London job just because you'd prefer to live in Switzerland and get paid by the RAV it may not go down too well here. It doesn't mean you'll have no entitlement, you probably will. But you'll have some explaining to do as to why you left voluntarily, and you'll certainly have a delay to any money.

Overall you're in a pretty good position but I'd caution you against wanting the best of all possible worlds. It's time to make a decision and stick with it rather than all this foot-dragging. I hope this London job doesn't require quick decision making.

Hardly surprising – will avoid further hijacking of this thread – conclusion: tax havens under UK jurisdiction are really impossible, erm, unmentionable…
