Where's Basil Fawlty when you need him?

Alsatians speak German very very well, so don't assume anything from language proficiency.
Do you think so?

I thought they were only marginally better at German than Spaniels and Turkeys.

Much better if we use some kind of creole English with bad spelling and even worse grammar.
It is not the case already?

This isn't indicative of anything meaningful, though. The big companies have long sought average Joe IT, HR and marketing people from cheaper locations, motivated solely by cost. There are very few people working in big companies in Switzerland within any of those teams with a job that plenty of people could do from a cheaper location.

I won't comment on the rights and wrongs of it. It's simply realistic to expect decreasing numbers of people working in such teams in Switzerland, and to expect the stragglers to be locals.

There has already been a massive amount of offshoring of software work. Much of what remains is work that cannot easily be offshored.

Well, people arenít coming anymore because itís almost impossible to get a job so the population of expats will continue to decline over time.
I know someone who has just moved here who has the same job as me.

It's about 30 years out of date. You can get great food from almost any culture in London at rock bottom prices. Certainly better than France or Italy in that respect. Even in my mid size home city (Newcastle) there's great authentic regional Chinese food.

Blubdy forriners, taking forriners jobs.

Back in the real world, I've not heard of this happening in Switzerland.

Re: British people are leaving Switzerland due to EU citizens taking priority

Just in case anyone reads this thread, and it creates a bit of worry, it's worth noting I haven't heard even 1 negative comment either in the recruitment process, nor about those employed.

The big companies are still using the same tools to find people, still using the same-old, same-old interviewing methods, still picking their candidate in the same-old way, and still doing the same-old things to to get them.

Big companies are long used to dealing with rules being different per country (so much so that it's a non-topic, and just business-as-usual for the HR person to take care of), and Switzerland still bends over backwards to give them what they want because they're such a significant part of the economy.

I know. Sad isn't it.

I was in one region in France and got chatting to the restaurant owner.

I apologies for being blatant but asked him why all the food in the restaurants in the area was crap.

He told me sadly that the majority of the tourists were from the Netherlands and they only wanted simple food like they were used to at home so the local restaurants had to cater for them.

French cuisine hasn't moved on in fifty years. British food has.

Agreed, a post that means nothing. HR people are quieter than mice and candidates are not posting their interview failure stories anywhere.

That sounds like a lame excuse to me. Not all restaurants cater to tourists and typically the best restaurants are the ones that cater predominantly to locals. You can afford to rip off tourists who you will never see again, but you need to work harder to keep the locals.

Do you understand the difference between leaving Switzerland and coming to Switzerland? EU citizens do no take priority over British who were resident in Switzerland on the 31st December 2020.

Well, we gave them decades to bring fish&chips here to no avail. So time to send them home.

How do you know? Might be a sneaky one, having learnt German beforehand. How embarrassing will that be?

i haven't really followed this, are brits now treated as 3rd country ranking below EU for work? or did the deal with the UK put them on the same footing? i seem to remember a visa allotment for brits, but wasn't sure if that was a one-off.

Marmite's available in Coop now, which means we get all the "home" produce we need. Except suet - I've never been able to find suet. It's probably by the brown sugar.
