Marmite's available in Coop now,
Which one? Precisely! Since my local Indian shop has stopped getting it, I'm on rations from the UK.
I'm hoping to get a small 'bucket' of it next time though.

Have you tried the Swiss Marmite (Cenovis). Unlike vegemite (yuck!), I think its a decent alternative.

There is a line I will not cross, and this is it.
I've already had to compromise on the baked beans (I'm too tight to pay for Heinz and always preferred HP anyway.)

What's next, Twinnings instead of PG Tips?
Come on old chap, keep the standards up.

Marmite's available in Coop now, which means we get all the "home" produce we need. Except suet - I've never been able to find suet. It's probably by the brown sugar.

Although we left the EU in early 2020, free movement only ended 1 January 2021.

I came here 3 weeks after brexit, but still have the EU/EFTA B permit.

i haven't really followed this, are brits now treated as 3rd country ranking below EU for work? or did the deal with the UK put them on the same footing? i seem to remember a visa allotment for brits, but wasn't sure if that was a one-off.
Your first statement is correct

There are seemingly tons of Americans in Basel, a big increase in the last 18 months I’d say.
So there seems to be no real barrier being 3rd country, if you have the necessary skills.
The Swiss are very pragmatic by the looks of it, at least in the Basel Kantons.

Just in case anyone reads this thread, and it creates a bit of worry, it's worth noting I haven't heard even 1 negative comment either in the recruitment process, nor about those employed.

The big companies are still using the same tools to find people, still using the same-old, same-old interviewing methods, still picking their candidate in the same-old way, and still doing the same-old things to to get them.

Big companies are long used to dealing with rules being different per country (so much so that it's a non-topic, and just business-as-usual for the HR person to take care of), and Switzerland still bends over backwards to give them what they want because they're such a significant part of the economy.
I was told by an recruitment agency that they will not pass on any UK CVs due to complexity of on-boarding. Instead i got several CVs from German, Portuguese and Greek nationals.

Funnily enough, in the past 12 months or so I received quite a lot of headhunter calls from the UK trying to fill roles on the island. I am certainly not a representative sample, but my personal insight is that there is obviously a shortage of skilled staff as people have left the Island for good.

Coop Bottmingen has it. 125g jars. I forget the price, but cheaper than Cenovis.

Presumably like us you bulk buy from the Indian shop. However, we've found these big teabag things in Migros you can put loose leaf tea in to make a pot of tea. There are some very good loose leaf teas to be obtained in Basel for not exhorbitant prices.

No. It isn't. Or at least, not accurate. The title of this thread is complete unfactual.

Brits who were not resident in Switzerland on 31.12.2021, or do not have an unrestricted B permit or a C permit, are treated as third country. The only difference between now and then for me is that if I want to work in an EU country, I'll need a work permit for that country.

I don't doubt it happened, but it'd be a sign of a poor quality agency to me, a sign that they can't support the needs of companies open to suitable candidate coming from, or being, anywhere.

I'm not even sure what "complexity of onboarding" means. It feels like a cop-out, that they don't have enough candidates to offer, so are blame-shifting. After all, big companies are well-used to recruitment requirements being variable. Why aren't they?

I've not experienced a recruitment agency telling me what they'd be willing to pass on, pertaining to an entire country or set of countries. Each agent and headhunter I deal with is falling over themselves to get the business, because their potential financial reward is so great.

At the moment I bulk-buy PG Tips from Amazon France, not sure if they'll delivery to Switzerland though. I've heard tell that amazon.de does deliver at least some things so it might be worth having a quick look?
The french site also has Marmite and suet, but with a high mark-up and the delivery fee is through the roof!

With you on the Twinnings front, horrible excuse for tea.

Brexit is a bit crap for all of us but since I did not see any gaps on the shelves of my local Migros - probably worse for the UK than for us.

And I really liked last weeks move where Bojo raised the income tax significantly to finance the NHS. Really acting on his Brexit promises and the "Singapore on thames" idea, isnt he?
But surely Brexit helped the NHS?

From blue passports to NHS funding - the Brexit promises that are being kept.

This might be a completely mind blowing idea: tea doesn’t actually have to be in a bag…

I get the PG from the Sri Lanken shop near the SBB.
Also purveyors of ginger nuts, cream crackers and a vast assortment of spices.
