Yes and no. Often bonus schemes are the real difference maker, not the base pay.
There are bonus like company car, cash and pre-approved work travel budget, some vouchers for vacations in X hotel chain.

I get cash bonus every year, could not care less the non-cash bonuses.

Re: 2023 Swiss salary survey information

for 2023 I only got 3x stocks grant compared to last year, but 0% increase, but reading the report made me happy by reminding me that two years ago I surpassed 2.5 times the swiss bracket for my job title

Vouchers I bet your boss gets at least twice the cash bonus you have.

Or someone else in the Dept Typically, at least in my case we'd get a budget for the Dept and the Dept head will decide how to split. NOT giving a bonus is communication as well.

Of course, I said I get an average income for the job

After looking at the big picture (household income distribution CH), I cannot complain. Not willing to lose even an hour of sleep over a few percentage points. https://www.iwp.swiss/sid/#graph-4

As soon as you have fulfilled your practical needs, poverty becomes a relative concept.

Happy to be average

Also a confirmation that going into higher management responsibility is only 10-20K more per year. But, at the price not enjoying weekends, always picking up the phone before 3rd ring and answering every mail within a few mins.
This is a wise approach.

I took a pay cut when I moved to Switzerland. But now I don't have regular 2am conference calls, now I don't feel sick every Sunday night at the thought of logging on the next morning, now I don't feel permanently exhausted and irritated... I'd rather have the reduced pay than go through those again.

Re: 2023 Swiss salary survey information

This is for taxable income per household, right? I.e. after social security and standard deductions, but before tax. The explanation on methodology is a bit ... difficult.

I bet that you changed employer and that culture change has more to do with the improvement than the pay cut.

Indeed, nothing is simple and perfect

Quote:
METHOD

The Federal Tax Administration (ESTV) publishes tax data every year, which is divided into different income brackets. Income includes both labor and capital income. The underlying income concept is the net income per household.* Net income means taxable income plus expenses and general deductions (Art. 25 DBG and Art. 9 para. 1 StHG). The use of this concept allows the international comparability of the data. However, it is unclear exactly how income is distributed within the various classes. In order to be able to precisely derive the proportion of top income earners, assumptions about income distribution have to be made.

Re: 2023 Swiss salary survey information

Thanks for sharing. So the files basically confirmed my thoughts that although starting salaries for junior SWEs in Switzerland start high(90-100k), they cap out pretty quickly at 120/130k for most people, are only few go beyond 140/150k, let alone 200/250k...
