Recent Irish Business Graduate- new in Zurich and looking for job!!!

Hey, Im an Irish business graduate- just moved to Zurich, and now Im looking for a job. BUT....I only speak English.

I've tried a number of recruitment agencies, and now have Page Personnel and Koch and Partner, but no jobs as of yet (1 month). I know that Im probably being a bit impatient but does anyone know what are the chances of me finding work here! My money is running out, and I really want to stay. Even if there is some temporary work that I can get in the meantime while they find me a job.

Im starting German lessons in September so hopefully that'll sort one thing out, but I was wondering if there was anyone here that could give me some more information?!! Im really hard working and have been working since I was 14 (so thats why Im finding the not working so difficult!), and I have a Bachelor of Science degree with a 1.1 result, majoring in Finance and Accounting.

Anyway, some help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a million!!!

You should check out some of the Grad. programs offered by some of the multinationals like this:

http://www.swissre.com/pws/careers/g...s_swissre.html

Good luck,

Jim (DIT class of '85)

The same kind of dedication and hard work that earned you a first class degree should help you out.

Nevertheless, it can take awhile and be a difficult task. Just keep going.

I've heard of a 2.1 but what the hell is a 1.1?

Re: Recent Irish Business Graduate- new in Zurich and looking for job!!!

I feel it in my bones. An early afternoon in a pub in central Zürich, a little too much booze, a load of pikey to and fro, and suddenly it's dawn and time to go home.

Oh if only I wasn't looking forward to it so much.

Hi,

You should look for a job in english/amercan companies.

I found my job after 1,5 month.

Good luck!

LOL. Seriously though, I think that it'll not be that easy as a graduate (i.e. without experience) and without German. If you can get up to speed in German before your money runs out then do that.

Otherwise, you may want to consider returning to Ireland (even though the economy has decided to take a nose dive) to build up some experience, do a german course (and go to the German conversation groups in the Ilac centre) and return in a year or two.

Hi Anakos,

Have you made sure to include copies of your DIT transcripts? Employers look at that stuff here much more so than home (I think). I mean, in my company they wont even consider you for interview if you havent included that stuff up front with your CV.

Good luck!

I work for Swiss Re, so if there's anything you want to know just ask.

Good luck with the search.

Yeah I think so. I didnt mean the actual diploma thingy that you hang on the wall (or whatever). I got a letterhead stamped thingy from the college that listed the results in each of my exams. Maybe transcript is the wrong word.

Hmm, I was never asked for a transcript - just the diplomas....
