13th month salary, How it works?

Hi,

After doing a bit of research, I gathered that most of the companies pay a 13th month salary as a bonus. Is it correct?

And how does it work? Does the company divide your annual salary into 13 and give you or is your salary divided into 12 and the 13th come as extra (not included in your salary, as a bonus or something)??

Would 100K be enough for a single earner with wife and a kid to leave happily somewhere outside the central Zurich?

Thanks in advance.

Rajith.

Re: 13th month salary, How it works?

Hi

How it's done in our company and alot of others in Swiss Romande is that the annual salary is paid in full but in 13 instlments.

Using your example, we receive the full 100k but divided into 13. Receiving one each month excepting December where we receive two.

Bonus is extra and is often paid around March or April.

My understanding is that the 13th helps those who are not taxed at Sources (ie. Permits C and Swiss) can use the 13th as help towards their taxes which are due early in the year.

I hope this helps and I'm sure others will correct me if I am not correct

Cheers
Nats

Normally if a company has a 13th month salary plan it's your annual salary divided by 13. Bonuses and/or profit sharing (if they offer them) are separate. In my company we even have a 14th available if one so desires (double payday in Dec. and June).
