Re: [Swiss Job market] English-Speaking Companies

I too fear I may have to wait until somebody leaves or dies before a suitable role for me become available.

The thing is at the rate I am going I may die first...

Re: [Swiss Job market] English-Speaking Companies

I hope this is not too far off topic, but I am trying to get in touch with someone at eBay in Zurich that I used to work with. I cannot find a tel# anywhere for them on the web, and the Bern # just gets me into an automated VM service.
Pls PM if you have a switchboard #, as we probably don't need to post it where everyone can see it.

thnx

Yup, I'm in the same sinking boat. Been here 15 months and zip to date.
I can't begin to tell you what a toll it's taken on my life, my marriage, my personality and my being.

Re: [Swiss Job market] English-Speaking Companies

Hi, I am also looking for a job.
I plan to post my CV in the section "Job Wanted".
Is there any problem if I do so?
I think that maybe, I should delete the contact info of my references, and give this info only after receiving an offer.
I think there is not problem if I publish my CV. What do you think?

This is really off topic for this thread, but no, I would strongly suggest not posting your CV on here.

Post to jobs wanted, indicate what you're looking for and a vague overview of your experience.

I have the feeling that I read that in the past somewhere in a thread, so my question was: why? what is the problem?
Still no answer.
(And yes, I'll post in the section "job wanted" as I said, thanks).

What are the odds of getting a job AND organising a permit in one month? Does it ever happen that the authorities will allow you to stay in Switzerland on a visitor visa while waiting on a work permit?

Re: [Swiss Job market] English-Speaking Companies

Hi,

If you had the signed work contract then getting a work permit is no problem but normally to get the job you need the work permit and to get the permit you need a job, so maybe if you approached some company and explained your situation they may be willing to help.

Best of luck,

Nils

It is probably a problem because a lot of personal information is held on the CV, and could be used for immoral / illegal gain.

Re: [Swiss Job market] English-Speaking Companies

Thanked to everyone for all the great info! I am hoping someone can provide some guidence-I'm looking for a position in Switzerland but have been out of the job search scene for over 11 years (been with the same company so all movement was internal). I've read some of the other threads regarding CV/resume formats and general strategies, but I found the information not applicable or contradictory. I've seen multiple postings that I'm interested in but have had 0 success (not even a call back). At this point I feel I need to have someone "take my hand" and let me know what I should be doing. Does anyone have any suggestions? Can I just call one of the recruiting companies (Selectus, Future Watch, etc.) and ask them for help? Many thanks!

Hi etb,

Being with the same company having multiple positions can only be attractive to a new employer. You are correct in saying much of the info provided here regarding CVs etc is contradictory because there is no one true way. There are however some basic rules that can be followed, such as CV structure and formatting.

Human resource companies can be helpful depending on the type of work you are seeking. I have found going direct to the firm the most productive. Target the firms you believe will have the best synergy with your skills and future direction, and contact them directly.

All the best!

Hi,

Same problem here, i moved to Switzerland in May and still looking for a Job.
I speak fluent English, Dutch and Flemish , but sadly enough not fluent in German.

Sure at school we had some german but got no further then the basic " where is the train station, what time it is, where is city hall and where is the restaurant"

All good and well but the chances of me inviting the mayor for dinner at the local restaurant near the train station.. not going to happen.

If you type in " English " to job searching engines, you get indeed job's that require the English language but thats just one of the many languages the job needs.
its mad to see " job needs English and French and Spanish and Italian and etc..

Not " or " but " and " between the lingo's, they look for people that speak 6 languages or more..does a super breed of humans like this exist?

So far i have registered with all the big players as suggested on the forum ( many thanks to all ) but find it hard to generate jobs.

if i do find a suitable job, i get an email back saying my german is not good enough or i can't be hired due to over qualification.

If i choose to work in a lower role then i'm told its not suitable to my experience and i shouldn't go for it.

So i feel like i'm running around in circles, chasing them but getting nothing in return.
please note that not all job searching companies are like that but just a few give you a good run around.

Once you finally get an interview, its playing the waiting game, they promise to ring you the same day or next day, but no one does..

anyone else struggling finding a job and tackling the problems above?
