Re: [Swiss Job market] English-Speaking Companies

No, you do not need French and German Skills to get a job here. However opportunities are limited. Companies do like you to show you are willing to learn and go to lessons though.

You will need language skills to get by in daily life so it is a wothwhile investment.

In my experience French was essential to work (in IT) in Geneva. It's smaller and perhaps more insular than Zurich with regard to language. There's also the tens of thousands of frontier workers coming over from France on a daily basis. Couldn't speak much francais when I started but showed an effort which was enough to be taken on.

Zurich is more international and I haven't felt the need to invest in German. Mind you I'm in an English speaking work environment and don't mix much with the locals socially (not snobbery - back to France most weekends).

Jobup is a good site. You can even sort the ads by the language they are posted in using the advanced search.

Re: [Swiss Job market] English-Speaking Companies

Hi All,

I`m a 23 year old Australian (also hold Italian Citizenship) now living in Switzerland with my girlfriend. Only speak English, learning German... as for Swiss German.. maybe in a few years time

The forums are very useful, glad I stumbled across them. Had a look at some of the links but if anyone could give me some suggestions on finding a job specific to my circumstances that would be great.

I have a degree in commerce (majoring in Financial Accounting, Management Accounting and Corporate Finance). I am also currently a part qualified Chartered Accountant. I have 2+ years experience in external audit with one of the big 4 accounting firms. My skills are probably more suited to financial accounting, auditing and business analyst roles.

If anyone has any suggestions/advice on where I should look or what my chances of finding a job related to my experience/qualifications that would be great

Thanks

suggest you have a look at the Big 4 here in Switzerland, eg PwC : English Language Version

they also happen to have an office in Bern.

In Switzerland it seems to be the opposite, they gave me the distinct impression that I was lucky or privileged to be being interviewed by them and that therefore they could do as they pleased and I would still be happy.
-------

I get the same impression in Switz.

Like totally!!! Then they keep you hanging around hoping and praying you got the job. They give you all the right signals in feedback and you wait and wait.

Re: [Swiss Job market] English-Speaking Companies

Hi

I'm new to Switzerland having moved over with my husband in mid-June, as he has a job in Feldmeilen. I was a Director of a Corporate Communications team in London and I am now looking for a role in the Zurich area - happy to travel up to an hour. I'm based in Staefa.

I'm registered with Michael Page but does anyone have any suggestions for agencies specifically focusing on Public Relations / Communications roles?

Any thoughts welcome, over and above what has been suggested already.

Many thanks

Annabel

Re: [Swiss Job market] English-Speaking Companies

Thanks for the link.
I probably did not ask my question properly, I was hoping to get more information in terms of their reputation, key people, track record, etc. I did already find factual info on the company but that is pretty much it!

Re: [Swiss Job market] English-Speaking Companies

It's payback time! I found my job at Sicap here in Bern via this website and have been there since January. Now we are looking for more Global Account Managers: http://www.sicap.com/store/jobs/00021.pdf
and there are other positions on our website as well including jobs in Lucerne:
http://www.sicap.com/company/careers
I gather that there are a lot of applicants, but the position is still open currently, so you'll need to move quickly!
Good luck!
