US doctor [job opportunities around Zug for]

Hello,

I've been invited to a job interview in Zug. I wonder if it does all work out, how likely my wife would be to find a job thereabouts. She's an American board-certified doctor. I tried searching fmh.ch but putting american or US in the search field produces an error.

I see there are reciprocity agreements with the EU countries; does anyone know if anything similar exists for the US? Also, what kind of registration is needed for clinical research?

Finally, is German mandatory? I have a feeling that in IT it isn't at all. What about the big pharmaceuticals?

Many thanks in advance!

I don't know about working as a doctor. but I can tell you that if your wife works at Novartis she can do so with just English.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. There is a discussion about the recognition of medical diplomas here. The big pharmaceutical companies normally use English as the working language but most of them (Novartis, Roche) are in Basel which is a long commute to Zug.

Good luck with your interview.

No reciprocity between US and Switzerland in licensing medical practitioners. Also language would be a barrier because of patient contact. Hence, US certification is irrelevant.

Pharma research does not require licensing neither in US nor here.

Amgen has a facility in Zug... perhaps medical publications or management opps there in English.

Zurich hospitals aren't really that far away and sometimes if you press and look and ask and cajole, you might find funding to do research in English as a "visiting" medic or such.

I've also been told there is a Swiss Medical Professionals Association with some information available in English. I haven't looked yet, but try googling something like that.
