Paternity Leave

Hi all,

I did a quick search but found nothing.

Does anyone have links or know if fathers are eligible for paternity leave in Switzerland?

Thanks

Re: Paternity Leave

I think that legally you are entitled to 1 day so you can go and register the birth. Given that maternity leave was only recently increased to 14 weeks paid I think it will be a long time before paternity leave catches up with the rest of Europe.

Re: Paternity Leave

There was an article in 20 Minuten about a month ago that patetnity leave is on it's way to this country. Unfortunatly i can find no link and i guess by the time it does arrive it'll be too late for you.

Re: Paternity Leave

apparently the big employers, Novatis, UBS etc give 2 weeks or more starting this May? for the first time. Don't expect much for the others....

You don't need to go that far, I'm sure someone will help you become eligible.

Paternity Leave (Vaterschaftsurlaub)

Hello,

My contract doesn't mention any of this, so I guess the general rules apply. Does anyone know how many days of paternity leave (paid/unpaid) I am entitled to?

Thanks in advance.

Zero.

A brief list of how much paid paternity leave employers give can be found here. The numbers lie between four weeks and none.

Paternity Leave in Switzerland

Does anybody know what the law is in Switzerland for paternity leave? I am expecting a baby in October.

Is there such a thing? or does my hubby have to save up his annual leave?

Re: Paternity Leave in Switzerland

Thank you! That's exactly what I needed.... if not a little disappointing, having both worked for a very big corporate in London that were very generous

How do you 'thank' people on here, so they get the little mention in the box?

Re: Paternity Leave in Switzerland

Never heard of ubiquitous paternity leave. Maybe some select employers. Normally father gets 2 free days at child's birth.

Re: Paternity Leave

I would be interested if anyone has an update on the legal minimum paternity leave in Switzerland - has anything changed since 2008? Or is it legally just one day plus whatever my company decide to give me?

Thanks!

Nothing change apparently. Hubby gets one week from his company and he takes 3 extra weeks from his vacations. We have some friends who had only one day last summer...

OK thanks Nil. Looks like it's lucky I haven't taken any holiday so far this year...

Indeed!

What worked for us this time is that hubby has a looooot of extra working time to take from work and it can't wait any longer or he will lose them. So we still have vacation time for summer! (Ouf!)

When my daughter was born, we didn't take any vacation that summer to keep the vacation time for the birth and after birth.

Not very family oriented....

I'm taking one week for some skiing in a couple of weeks time, but other than that I think I will be saving most of my summer holidays for the autumn instead...
