| | Paternity Leave
Hi all,
I did a quick search but found nothing.
Does anyone have links or know if fathers are eligible for paternity leave in Switzerland?
Thanks

I think that legally you are entitled to 1 day so you can go and register the birth. Given that maternity leave was only recently increased to 14 weeks paid I think it will be a long time before paternity leave catches up with the rest of Europe.

There was an article in 20 Minuten about a month ago that patetnity leave is on it's way to this country. Unfortunatly i can find no link and i guess by the time it does arrive it'll be too late for you.

You don't need to go that far, I'm sure someone will help you become eligible.

| | Paternity Leave (Vaterschaftsurlaub)
Hello,
My contract doesn't mention any of this, so I guess the general rules apply. Does anyone know how many days of paternity leave (paid/unpaid) I am entitled to?
Thanks in advance.

Zero.
A brief list of how much paid paternity leave employers give can be found here. The numbers lie between four weeks and none.

| | Paternity Leave in Switzerland
Does anybody know what the law is in Switzerland for paternity leave? I am expecting a baby in October.
Is there such a thing? or does my hubby have to save up his annual leave? |

Thank you! That's exactly what I needed.... if not a little disappointing, having both worked for a very big corporate in London that were very generous
How do you 'thank' people on here, so they get the little mention in the box?

I would be interested if anyone has an update on the legal minimum paternity leave in Switzerland - has anything changed since 2008? Or is it legally just one day plus whatever my company decide to give me?
Thanks!

Never heard of ubiquitous paternity leave. Maybe some select employers. Normally father gets 2 free days at child's birth.

It took a few hundred years for the women to get the vote. And it will take a few hundred years before the men get paternal leave. The system here is stacked against the women. And naturally the man. And anyhow they have now to pay for all those sparkling new jets. So no money money, money!

Surely by now OP has it sorted. | | | | | Unlikely, really, since in Switzerland paternity leave is still, these 10 years later, not an automatic legally protected right, neither for the father nor for the child.
Yes, the application of family law in Switzerland has made a general paradigm shift towards placing the well-being of the child first. That's significant progress. Even so, a child's right to be cared for by his/her father is less protected than the protection (such as it is, still rather flimsy) of the child's right to be cared for by his/her mother.
