Re: 13 month salary. How often used and how calculated?

Would you believe that my Zurich based accountant cheated me on my tax return? And it was a firm and not someone that was independent. Sad but true.

No, it's true, though has nothing to do with management/non-management, and withholding is only for foreigners who don't have a C permit nor a Swiss spouse.

Swiss normally pay there taxes at the end of the year (I always do).

Tom
It wasnít that long ago that no-one had tax withholding. Everyone paid their tax at the end of the year.

even for the Swiss: it comes too late and it's not enough anymore.
How too late? Taxes are due at the end of the year.

Enough or not depends on how much you earn, for most people it is more than enough.

If you leave a company mid year, will they give you your 13th salary pro rata? I've read through my contract and that point isn't clear
Yes.

I moved here in '86, there was withholding then, also when I was here for three months in '82.

Must have been a cantonal thing. In GE and then VD they didnít start doing that until the late 90s

I lived in ZH in the '80s, and down here since '90.

When I got married in '88, that changed until I moved to TI, where I went back to withholding until they ran into the problem that I earned too much for their withholding tables!
