My first Swiss Job offer -salary expectations- accountancy

After a few months of serious searching I have just received my first job offer in Zurich.... Yey!

Ok so it isn`t all good news, the initial salary offer is about 20k less than I was expecting, but now Im not sure if my expectations were too high or if this company is being a bit sneaky and offering less than market rate because they know I want to move over here and as I can`t speak German they know my options are limited.

The company s a small subsiduary of a large group.
The resposibilities are as follows:
Management of accounts payable process (supervision of 1 member of staff)
Manage Bank Reconciliation process
Prepare Management Accounts reporting pack with analysis and commentary
Prepare Stat accounts for approval by auditors
Implement processes to improves internal control weaknesses.

I guess you need to be an accountant, (or employ one) or a finance recruitment consultant to answer this one. What sort of salary would you expect this sort of role to pay?

You might want to say how many years of experience you have.

Around CHF 80,000 would be a good salary for the qualifications and experience you have.

80K seem a bit on the lower end of the scale. Since the OP mentioned that he's qualified, a figure hovering around 100K seem fitting but then again he did say it's with a small subsidiary company - size does matter afterall - only thought it's applicable when talking about romantic spoils

Do you mean, the larger the company, the more possibilities exist for a higher salary?

Re: My first Swiss Job offer -salary expectations- accountancy

Since you are anonymous, why not say how much you were offered.

In addition, you need to quote all the benefits (such as bonus, pension contributions, lunches, medical insurance) since these can make a big difference - you will then get a more informed response.

Furthermore, it is a tough job market right now, so take that into account before negotiating too hard or rejecting the job. Bear in mind too that Swiss tax is much lower than UK, so you need to calculate your net income.

Hope that helps...

given the range of experience you're going to get, i'd take it and get a couple years of good experience with a view to either moving on or getting a payrise.

Totally agree, the question sucks...The OP wants help but isn't even ready to disclose how much he was offered

Doesn't he understand that this thread could be useful to other accountants

Normally, yes. Factors such as scope of responsibility, industry and current market conditions ultimately determine how much salary is offered.

120k+ depends on industry and your role. fresh finance grads at better companies start at avg of 90k according to my swiss colleagues.

Hi DP; please note that the thread is a couple years old; Spottydog has probably already been promoted a couple of times by now!

Lets just say that Spottdydog was well underbid and got 50% more with the offer she accepted

The company in question were ripping the piss, especially given the requirements of the job (a lot of time in a high risk part of the world).
