But you can always use the government 'salary finder' which is quite reasonable and has been posted here over and over...

Re: Swiss Salary - Personal Wages Calculator

I do wonder how many people get caught out- attracted by what seems a large salary, but not realising that the cost of living, accomodation, health care, etc, will more than wipe off any salary increase and actually leave them much worse off.

This is so true, 5k in switzerland is equal to 2.5 k in the US in terms of living.

I used to have equivalent to $ 2.5 k to 3.5 k working in in various locations and could easily afford very nice life style, in Switzerland i make more than double that and hardly can finish the month, living in a single bedroom apt and hanging out much less.

If some people care about decent lifestyle and savings, don't think the high swiss salary will cover that unless you cross the 8k to 10k a month, any thing less is just to have basic living.

Re: Swiss Salary - Personal Wages Calculator

It was not the case for us (the 30% salary increase and lifestyle possibilities are more exciting than a $500,000 mortgage to buy a shack in Sydney...but then again, when we left interest rates were heading for 9% and now our friends are paying 5%...in their case, the crash was positive, as long as they manage to keep their jobs...

Re: Swiss Salary - Personal Wages Calculator

Interesting calculator.

I was surprised that it thinks I can earn more in Geneva than Zürich (Banking IT).

Re: Swiss Salary - Personal Wages Calculator

With me it was spot on every time.
Experienced EF Mod, fluent in English, knowledgable in many things Swiss - whatever place of work I put in, Geneva, Basel, Lugano, Zürich, Interlaken, Sternenberg, Trübschachen - earnings correct to the fifth decimal place without fail.

Here's another link though - Lohncheck - do you earn enough money?

?

Which one in particular?

Do you mean, "is there a law against gender discrimination in Switzerland?"

They brush you off with "well, men are better at demanding a pay rise". Seriously.

--raises hand--

while "much worse off" is a bit of an exaggeration, i certainly feel like i'm living like i did in my mid 20s when i made half what i make now. even north of 6 figures is barely enough to support a fam if youre one income.

Re: Swiss Salary - Personal Wages Calculator

As far as I can see this calculator doesn't take into account if you manage people or not. Am I missing something?

Of if indeed it doesn't allow setting something like "no. of managed people"...is there like a "standard" procent you add to the salary when you go from being a standalone worker to managing some people (e.g. 2-3)?

Thnx
