Job Prospects for Foreigners at Swiss Universities

Hi,

I am an American who is really interested in getting a masters at the University of St. Gallen in Quantitative Economics. I speak German fairly well, and I think everything about the program - living in Switzerland, the curriculum, all looks great. I am just a tad concerned about the employment prospects for a foreigner coming out of it. I am just wondering what the prospects for work in Switzerland are for foreigners graduating from Swiss universities. Does anyone have any info on or experience with this?

Cheers,
Paul

I'm curious about this too, will be doing a masters in Finance in St. Gallen as an American, German is at B1 level but I think it would be a joke in the business world.

Re: Job Prospects for Foreigners at Swiss Universities

If you're serious about the language and doing well longterm in Switzerland then take as many of the free German classes at the university as possible, avoid the English-only international student groups and within a year you'll get yourself up to B2 (minimum for business german). Plenty manage it.

You'll find that there are many excellent jobs for non-german speakers in Switzerland, but if you can apply for german speaking jobs as well you'll find that there are many more career options.
