Salary in Geneva

Hi,

I'm currently in a recruitment process for a job with an NGA in Geneva. The salary they are offering is roughly CHF110. This amount is tax free and on top of this healthcare is included.

My question is how far will this go? I would need to support a wife and child (who would be cared for by her mum), a 3 bedroom home within commutable distance of Geneva (in Switzerland due to the tax) and transport for both of us. I'm not after huge extravagance, just sufficient to support a decent life.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks,

C

And considering it's tax free and healthcare comes on top i'd say it's rather exceptional...

Thanks for the request for clarification. The salary is not subject to taxation in Switzerland, as far as I can tell.

http://www.theglobalfund.org/en/empl...ances/?lang=en

The relevant point, I think, is "With the exception of Swiss nationals residing in Switzerland, this payment is exempt from Swiss taxes under the Global Fund's Headquarters Agreement with the Swiss Federal Council".

Happy to be corrected though! More information means better decisions!

Thanks

Re: Salary in Geneva

The taxes on top would be another 20k give or take, and health care for a family of three could easily be another 10k a year, maybe less if you don't add on all the extravagant benefits (I pay about 4k a year on health insurance alone, maybe the deal for families is better, i.e second or third person, especially a child doesn't necessarily pay the full amount).

So you're looking at something to the tune of up to 140k which is a very decent salary.

Good luck on the housing side of thing, that's where things hurt the most. Especially 3 bedrooms... You might find something 20-30km outside of Geneva for 3k chf a month if you're looking at just over 100 square meters...

Quite a bit more than 20k if your after tax is 110k...

What needs to be clarified with the employer is whether they have any pension plan set up.

Re: Salary in Geneva

Hi,

I’ve been offered a secondment role in Geneva with the possibility going permanent.

Accommodation will be paid for by the firm and I will receive a daily living allowance whilst doing the secondment, I am still waiting to get back to me for the amount. What should be idea daily allowance? as I heard Geneva is a expensive place.

The role I will be doing is desktop support for a financial company.

I was wondering if was made permanent what type of salary should I expect living in Geneva?

What needs to be clarified with the employer is whether they have any pension plan set up.
"The Global Fund Provident Fund (GFPF) is a cash balance retirement scheme that provides retirement, death and disability benefits for you and your dependents and beneficiaries.
Membership in the GFPF is mandatory for all employees of the Global Fund with contracts of three months or longer.
The GFPF will be funded through employer and employee contributions based on an employee’s pensionable remuneration.
The investment return for this established cash balance scheme is subject to a guaranteed minimum rate of return. Employees will contribute 7.9% of their pensionable remuneration and the Global Fund an additional 15.8%, putting a total of 23.7% of employees’ pensionable remuneration into their GFPF retirement account."

I'd pay in roughly CHF8000, reducing tax home pay to CHF102 000ish.

PS How do you thank people? I'm grateful but can't work out how to thank!
