Unemployment insurance question

From this page

Days without benefit

In the following cases, you may not receive unemployment benefit for a certain period of time (days without benefit):

"if you hand in your notice without having a new job lined up" ?

What does it mean? -_-
Another job lined up? I mean if you lose your job, you don't have a new one, otherwise I wouldn't go at RAV.

They like to cover all aspects: it means you can't claim if you dismiss yourself.
The standard fine is 30 claimable days, ie 6 weeks benefits.

I fell asleep on night duty while guarding President Bush's Embassy. A Swiss government lawyer decided I had caused my own dissmissal and I lost about CHF 4'000.

You should go immediately to the social services, you can probably claim some money but you cannot back date a claim: they will only pay you money starting from the day you have presented your documents for the claim (Take all your paperwork with you!)

I see, but to it doesn't seem it says that. I don't comprehend what they meant there. My situation is a straight company failure, so they are actually doing everything... So what does it mean another job lined up?
I used to line up ninepins while playing billiard, not jobs.

I would read that to mean if you hand in your notice i.e resign you get zip, which is prety standard stuff.

Ah ok thanks, I thought hand in the notice to RAV, i mean the employer notice, when they tell you they send you home.
I thought that notice, not the one I would hand should I resign. Enigma solved.

Sounds to me (not an expert opinion) like you are focusing on the wrong part of the sentence. What should be relevant here is the first part, i.e., YOU handed in your notice. Maybe if I rewrite it this way it is clearer: "if you hand in your notice without having a new job lined up and therefore become unemployed".

Anyway, from what I know, if you quit, you would have to wait an additional 30 days before you can claim benefit, compared to if your company fired you.
