Annette has no particular reputation at present
severance + chomage

I have recently found myself in a legal mess with my employer. Lawyers became involved and threats of wrongfull termination were issued. While lawyers on both sides sent letters of accusations and counter accusations I found myself applying for chomage awaiting either a settlement or a legal proceeding to ensue as a salary was not going to arrive for this January.
Luckily we have come to a settlement that allows me a further three months employment under sick leave then one month's notice of termination per my work contract without having to work. Then they will pay me a further three months salary in installments i.e. per month. I asked them why they could not just pay me the full four months at once and why they chose to pay me monthly. No straight answer.
As I earn way over the 10600chf +/- cap I envisioned a one lump payout to help me subsidise what I would get maximum from chomage IF I should find myself without gainfull employment before the end of my third monthly installment. As I have read here throughout the forum I cannot apply for chomage until my severance is exhausted so my question to you in the know is: Must I await till the last installment which is July or can I apply for chomage in april as this is officially then end of my work contract.
Now no hate mail please as I am not looking to double up on chomage and my severance as this severance is basically damges for their improper behaviour it's just I looked at this severance to subsidise the lack of income that chomage cannot pay me. My earnings were 220k+ so you may understand my position.

You can register ahead of time, just not be paid. Usually a good idea these days as filling in paper work etc can take considerable time with the unemployment office and your first "payment" from them once you're no longer receiving any real money, could be delayed...

*edit* waiting until April should be fine

Getting paid that much for not working would be nice...

If you were earning Chf 220k as a graphic designer you must be very good at your job, so i can't imagine it will be such a problem getting a new job. Might have to take a pay cut though
