Salary estimate for Quant Analyst?

Can anyone give me a rough estimate of how much a Quant Analyst (non PhD) with 3+ yrs of Swiss experience is worth? Industry is hedge funds, trading., commodities.

Re: Quant with 3+ yrs experience

You are joking, right? In NYC people earn from 150-250k + bonus.
On the other end, I have a good friend who works for a multi billion USD Swiss fund as a quant, but he is based in Eastern Europe. He holds a Masters in mathematics, and has over 3 years experience as a Quant.

The Swiss company is in my opinion, exploiting him as he is earning roughly 2 000 Sfr per month.

Re: Quant with 3+ yrs experience

The link I gave has a 2 page discussion on wage disparity between Switzerland and the rest of the world for Hedge Fund analysts, going into the various ins and outs of it.

Quick summary of it, 100k is a decent wage for the role, and enough for a family of 4 to live on.

Are you sure about 2000CHF per month? IANAE but I believe the minimum wage is 3000CHF..?

Re: Quant with 3+ yrs experience

100% sure. The fund established an office in Eastern Europe and that is where he works for 2 000.

Re: Quant with 3+ yrs experience

I daresay if he's living in Eastern Europe then the comparative wage to the cost of living is in line with what other HFA's are earning in CH. Like I said, there's more in the link.

With the exception of some protected industries, Switzerland actually has no minimum wage - a point which is often denied by many Swiss, but is true nonetheless.

Many people get confused with the poverty line which is around 3,300 per month. However, many people in Switzerland live well below this official poverty line.

The lack of a minimum wage is also not be confused with the fact that a work permit won't be issued unless a certain level of pay (which varies according to the job) is paid. This is to protect against wage dumping (rightly or wrongly), rather than the exploitation of poor foreigners.

Re: Salary estimate for Quant Analyst?

Would you go for:

Bachelor Nr 1 : earning 150-200k$ balshy and proud across the Atlantic deriving and hedging like a good 'un ?

or will it be

Bachelor Nr 2 : working in a modest office in Eastern Europe unconcerned by the disparity, but so enthralled by the maths of it all , it makes his day. Leaving his colleagues overseas to take up the crusade to improve his lot.

or finally will it be...

Bachelor Nr.3 : a Quant working in Zürich who is unconcerned how much he earns as long as it keeps him in black polo-neck jumpers and that he earns more that his colleagues with whom he does Noonies.

Ladies...make your choice....

dave

Salary estimate for Senior Java developer in banking

Hi

I have been offered a permanent position as a senior developer on a small company (30 persons owned 100% by a bank). The proposed salary range is between 110-115000 CHF per year.
I have a MSc in physics and 10 years of experience as developer/architect in banking and other industries. This salary has to be good enough to support my wife and two kids living in/outside of Zurich (Schwarzenbach).

Anybody knows if this is a good salary!?!

Kind regards
Georges

Thread stealer!

With 10 years experience, I'd say that was a little low, but it depends on the bonus schemes and other benefits.

Gee thanks.

10 years Access developer? probably 80K ish
or 10 years Oracle with master certifications etc? possible double that...

"Developer" covers a multitide of sins, y'know.

"Architect" in the IT sense is also a misused and abused word
