| | ITIL V3 Foundation
Hi,
just a quick question.
The company I am working for is undergoing changes, it is time for the outsource cycle again...
As far as we could find out only a small team will remain and deal with Project / Process Management, the technical part will be mostly outsourced.
Since I planned to stay another 4-5 years mostly on the technical side of the job as Infrastructure / System Engineer I didnt pay to much attention with ITIL or PMI certification, although I am familiar with the methods.
Now it seems I have to decide, so I thought about ITIL V3 Foundation course and certificate for around 2500CHF, I will pay it myself, dont want any hassle.
As far as I can tell from job offers, the more certificates, the better. Reminds me of Germany.
Any suggestions if to go rather for ITIL + options or PMI?
Thanks

If you're remaining technical then in my experience mentioning having worked to ITIL (or some aspects of it) is good enough. I've never been for a job where the ITIL foundation certificate has been a requirement and the practitioner cert is usually only required for Service Delivery Management type jobs.
I take it you have some technical certs as well?
Also, have you considered e-learning? Its probably a fair bit cheaper if you're the kind of person that can do it. Sometimes the other people in the room are 80% of the value in a training course but ITIL is so prescriptive that e-learning may be a good way forward.

Thanks for your answer.
I will check the e-learning option and go with the Foundation course, on- or offline.
SDL or SDM is something I would really like to do in a few years, but I have to think to improve my people management, so far managing mostly interns (Auszubildende).

ITIL... how to make the bleeding obvious, as confusing as possible.
I passed the course and exam for V3 foundations. It was ok, already been using the methodology for a while now. Good luck with yours!

Thanks
I have seen a few SDLs and SDMs that made me head scratch, or rather ache. Lets see if i can undermatch them if I ever get the chance |

Except in large projects involving many people I found ITIL to be part obvious and part too heavyweight for all but very big projects. I think common sense gets you further.
Why people are so fussed about qualifications remains a mystery to me.

the more paper/certification the better!
Swiss are very fond of paperwork and certifications are always appreciated if not a MUST.

I recommend the following if you need ITIL Foundation certification...
1) Book the exam *now* for 1 months time
2) Print of the syllabus: http://certifications.bcs.org/upload...n-syllabus.pdf
3) Study 5 hours each Sunday of this book (which you can find free online):
Passing the ITIL® Foundation Exam https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=...s_similarbooks
4) Exam costs around 200 CHF with Pearson VUE BCS

I went to https://home.pearsonvue.com/ and when trying to schedule an exam I couldn't find ITIL from the program list.
