Advice/recommendation please - re freelance work from UK

Hi

Firstly apologies if this question has been covered elsewhere, or that this is the wrong forum - I have searched to check but......

Having worked in the public sector in the UK for almost 10 years I've been cosseted from thinking about the joys of changing work/self employment and am now not sure where to get the right advice.

Rather luckily I have a number of ongoing freelance assignments I can do for UK companies but working from Switzerland. As my move out here has happened quite quickly I haven't bottomed out the best way to structure this - and am looking for some professional advice. When I have spoken to accountants in UK they haven't been able to advise on both UK/Swiss implications of this situation - both re company structures and tax. Can anyone recommend someone they've used in/around Zurich?

This probably makes me sound embarrassingly blonde and naive..... Thanks heaps for any pointers. I think I'm clearish on permits but again any issues/pit falls to avoid would be helpful.

Cheers - in advance
J

POrobably best setting up as a sole trader or a GmbH company in Switzerladn and invoicing your UK clients via this route. A little depens on the amounts you are talking about, my guess is you would need a minimum of Chf100k turnover to justify a Swiss company.

You will pay tax here as Switzerland is your domicile. With a company you can deduct all your expenses, such as flight back to the UK for client consultation (guess you're lucky if this coincides with your sisters wedding....)

I am a freelancer in CH with both swiss and UK clients. I get paid GBP into my UK account but I declare all earnings here CHF and GBP and I pay taxes in CH

I set myself up as an einzelfirma, speak to an accountant over here and they will help you. I'd recommend mine but it seems he's not been responding to recommendations I have been giving to others.
