UBS Offer Approval taking for ever, problem?

Hi,

I recently had 3 UBS interviews, all went really well. Last Wednesday we discussed financial package and both agreed. Apparantly UBS have an approval process whereby my package will be sent to other managers etc.

Well I now have 2 calls a day telling me they are still waiting for approval. Apparantly last Friday there was a new control put in place for a further cost control, as it's towards the end of the year.

My question is, I am not sure if they are putting me off for a reason, I have another offer in Zurich which was my backup plan, but I don't want to end up with neither as my current job sucks!!

Anyone have any experience?

I suppose you could tell them you have another offer - and that you're not hanging about. Of course that could backfire. So don't push it too much!

ubs is a huge machine, things take time, lots of managers trying to justify there jobs. If you think its bad now just wait until you work for them.

I have told them, I don't think it matters so much to them as UBS is so big, the only person that would be affected (my potential manager) is no longer in the loop, it's now gone to HR > Group Approval etc

Find out if an HR person involved in the decision is away on holiday. I was, a long time ago, kept on hold for such a reason. I accepted an alternative offer much to the dismay of the guy I was supposed to be hired for.

Re: UBS Offer Approval taking for ever, problem?

Had a similar situation ...did 5 interviews(yes 5!!!) with UBS and everything was agreed including the package and date of joining. ..just to find out a week ago that the position has been cancelled.
No further details were provided , hope the same does not happen to you as it is year end.

I even took 2 days off for the interview, it is so frustating and I feel like hitting the HR for making it a long process..interview process went on for 3 months and then they decided to cancel the job

Hi, sorry to hear this, makes me worry also!!

Did you ever receive a paper contract? Did you sign anything? It sounds like we are both in the same stage, the approval process. Sounds like yours was rejected by the powers above HR.........

I never received anything on paper nor did I sign anything but verbal feedback was always so positive that I never thought I would not get it.
There is a reason they say" nothing is confirmed until you sign the contract"

Wish you all the best though.

Re: UBS Offer Approval taking for ever, problem?

Call from HR yesterday, the job has finally been approved. However, no contract yet as it needs to go to the Administration department for the paperwork. Arrrghhhh

The chap said that I can not hand my notice in with my current job, but I feel a bit uneasy doing this without the contract in my hand.

Congratulations, Mouse! Nice news to start the weekend

It sounds like everything is in place, but don't give your notice until you've both (you and your new employer) signed the contract. If they are wrapping up the final details it should only be a matter of days, and will make no difference to your notice period.

Verba volant, scripta manent.

Thanks! It's normal for the contract to arrive with the employers signature on isn't it? If I have to sign first I guess it will take a few more days. I really can't wait to hand my notice in, will feel a lot les stressed!! Just hope they don't want me to work the notice period......

Re: UBS Offer Approval taking for ever, problem?

Yep, normally you would have an agreed contract signed by them arrive by mail. and you are right - do not hand in any resignation up to the moment you get and verify the written contract. What if they right a salary lower than discussed? you would be in a terrible position to rediscuss it.

Actually, I find unprofessional that the HR rep told you to do so...

However, time seems to be turning to congratulations...

Why would it arrive without a signature from your employer ?

Your employer has written the contract so one can only assume that in all liklyhood they are in full accordance with the terms and conditions !

Agreed, will wait until contract is in my hands and looks fine, before I hand my notice in. Should all be completed tomorrow

I can understand the frustration . mine took about 2 weeks. I was told they had to get approvals from London & NY, hence the delay ... but it finally came .. and so will yours.. All the best !
