From Bern to Tessin, means downsizing?

I've got a more than decent and well-paid job near Bern, I've been offered a slightly better job near Lugano, but the package isn't quite as good. I understand it's a different market, but is this get-a-bit-less-money compromise necessary for everyone that moves downthere?

Compare rents, cost of grocery shopping, proximity to Italy for even cheaper shopping, cost of petrol (if you have a car), and so on. Yes, a slight adjustment to your salary package is worth considering.

Not to mention the slight adjustment to your quality of life!

I would move to Lugano for a 5% 10% salary reduction. Especially from Bern

Tessin is nice but you will be out of the loop with the rest of CH. With Bern u r also half way between Zurich and Geneva. Tessin yes if you are 55 and over with 5 to 6 years to retire otherwise it is no go.

Is it okay to be "Out of the loop" once you are 55?

Sorry I have I meant it in a strictly job related way....it is like NYC and Florida, if you want a career in finance NYC is a place to be, but if you want a retire with a job in your area then Florida

Except will be easier and quicker to become CEO medium size bank in Miami than it is to become CEO large bank in NY. Just a thought.

Yes. It's less expensive to live in Lugano. So don't worry too much about a salary cut. Personally, I'd gladly live in Lugano. It's closer to Italy. However, it's closer to the in-law in that's a bad thing!

Re: From Bern to Tessin, means downsizing?

I do have some reservations but mainly for the job, I'm not over 55 and I really don't see Lugano as a retirees haven, well not more than ANY other place in Switzerland(may say something harsh here but Switzerland is not exactly popular for its nighlife and glamour, is it? We are here for other reasons), the fact that Lugano is so close to lively Milan might actually even spruce up things..
