Our Friday office chatter has us talking about a new vegan restaurant and bakery which has just opened up around the corner. Boss says she hasn't tried it yet, but heard it was nice. Anyone been yet?
Hello!

I will receive a friend from England and she is a vegetarian. Could anyone help me with a good vegetarian reataurant to take her, please???

Thanks a lot and best regards!

Re: vegan restaurant in Zurich

Iwould suggest Hiltl in Zürich.Either Haus Hiltl or Terrace.

http://www.hiltl.ch/de/standorte

Or something more elegant but not so many choices and pricey- Bona Dea

http://www.bona-dea.ch/

Make reservations as both can get fairly busy

I'm vegetarian and must say, I didn't enjoy Hiltl the one time I went. To me, everything felt a bit 'stewed', and you also need to be aware that you are charged by the weight of the food on your plate. I fancy Bona Dea but haven't been yet.

My favourite place to eat in Zurich (by a very long way) is Manora, the roof top cafe in Manor on Bahnhofstrasse.

https://www.manor.ch/de/u/manora

The prices are excellent compared to restaurants, you have a roof terrace if the weather's good, and the food and drink options are great. If you want a meat, fish or pasta dish, it's freshly cooked in front of you instead of sitting under a heat lamp. When I go there with my OH or friends, they tend to have steak or salmon whilst I have a good salad starter and glass of something yummy from the juice bar, a slice of quiche with lots of cooked vegetable side dishes and a (self poured) carafe of wine.

Re: vegan restaurant in Zurich

I had a nice Veggie burger at Elle'n'Belle the other day, they are Vegan but its a pretty hip place:

There is a new Tibits at Sternen Oerlikon.

Bona Dea is a bit meh, as is Pot au Vert. Hiltl the restaurant, not the buffet is very good.

Samses on Langstrasse is OK.

If all else fails go for a pizza

Re: vegan restaurant in Zurich

Last Saturday a friend invited me to the one at Müllerstrasse 64 for my birthday. The food selection is smaller than in Tibits, but everything was VERY tasty. They were nice telling me what had or had not soya as I am allergic. They let me try their cold tea and I loved it. I had some ice-cream for desert and honestly, it did not really hit (I had cassis and gianduia -- maybe other flavors are nicer… My friend loved the lemon flavor...). Then, the guy heard it was my birthday and he gave me a piece of chocolate cake for free… Really delicious! I will certainly go back!

By the way, they sell some things at the store and I must say, for example, their Bio Chia seeds are way overpriced… One can get these much cheaper at Aldi...

Re: vegan restaurant in Zurich

Well Hiltl has alot of Indian dishes -curries,masala etc which naturally are cooked in sauce. I have been there maybe 20 times and it was always good.

Manora is the worst restaurant in Zürich. Its hardly a restaurant. Noisy, hot, closed in and very ugly place. Its a manor shopping restaurant. And its far from being vegetarian.

I'm not saying it's a great restaurant and it's more cafe / buffet dining than anything, just that I'm vegetarian and enjoy that place because I can eat together with friends without them compromising on what they would prefer. The prices also make appealing.

We're all different, and when I'm asked what my favourite food is, I'll say buffet. I like having a bit of this, a bit of that, and often a little bit of something I've never had before without paying through the nose for a plateful of it.

Re: vegan restaurant in Zurich

Well Hiltl has a very big Buffet and one can also order from the Menu if you don't want from the Buffet. And the prices are comparable with any Zürich restaurant-its not overpriced
