It's OK, not too bad, middle-of-the-road place.
TV screens, lots of football, sometimes rugby, some nice beer, English-speaking bar staff (usually).
A good place to go when you just arrive.
Just go, and see what you think....
If you wanna meet people, I would rather join some kind of club, or socialise with people at work...

If you want sports or a familiar 'English style' bar then fine.

Pretty much as above. The Boddies is not even close to the beer I once loved (avatar shows the old brewery at strangeways). It is ridiculously expensive.
I tend to go to watch the match, stick to bottled beer, then get out. Each to their own but not somewhere I would call a "local". Not sure if some have closed or changed names but a few years ago there was one in most large towns in Northern CH. Certainly been in ones in SG, SH, etc. Though the one I have used the most is Luzern.
Edit: just clicked on original link that seems to go to Geneva pub, not tried it so can't comment.

Try Paddy Reilly's. (Slightly) Better beer, better atmosphere for my money, sponsors the ZH rugby team.

well i ended up checking it out. I had spoken to the bartender once when I stopped by on a monday (totally empty) and I saw him again last night and he introduced me to this group of people ... all americans and a bunch of au pairs (which is my current job). So it totally worked out.
loud though, karaoke night! but it was worthwhile I'd say.
Thanks!

We went there when my husband first arrived in basel a year ago and its ok to watch football/rugby sports really. Nice staff and people that go are quite friendly.
We go to Kushlin (not sure about spelling!) now and its a great bar for after work etc and they do meals as well as snacks at the bar tables. Its few doors along from Mr Pickwicks. Good pub hunting! Sarah |

W'appened 'n' that? | | | | | Now, apparently I keep getting bad service everywhere I go..and naturally, I just shurg it off as being a Swiss thing....but what happened last Saturday almost made me (Mr. Cool and Smooth etc...) loose it.
Well, to sum it all up, we had to wait incredibly long for our order..when I went to see what the hold up might be, I got a simple "Oh, let me check..." I then waited another 10min..and I went to double check on my order...that's when I got a "Oh, it'll be there in 2min..." I was like cool....now, we waited another 10min or so..that's when we decided to pick up an leave...I got my money back and went on about my business. The food came right when I received the money but by then we had already lost our appetite waiting for almost an hour. Now, an English pub was never my spot...but I will definitely stray away from that one if I'd ever wanted some food....'cause orders might misteriously get lost. |

Kind a fun to walk into a place and just start speaking English without waiting to see if they do first. So much English being spoken there in fact that I had to chuckle last week when I asked the bartender for a " Stange" beer. He looked to the left (puzzled), he looked to the right (puzzled) then looked at me (still puzzled) and asked, "what's a Stange..?". | This user would like to thank for this useful post: | |

Erm, that must have been awful for you. English customer service is dreadful. You should have gone to TGI Fridays. Or something. That OK? |
