DJing in Zürich

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a recent thread specific to Zürich, and I didn't want to hijack someone else's. So here it goes...

I was hoping someone could shed some light on Zürich's underground techno/house/breaks/dubstep clubs, promoters and crews. I am new to the city and don't know where to start. I have tried doing some Google searches as well as some on Resident Advisor, but it's really hard to see what hits are still valid and relevant. I'm sure some people around here could point me in the right direction.

A little about me...

I've been DJing for just about 11 years. I am from the West Coast of Canada, and have played heaps of shows in the area. I play a wide variety of music. Ranging from house/techno/progressive, to breaks/electro/future garage/UK bass. So I'm versatile when it comes to finding slots to fill.

I don't hit the city much and live a relatively quiet life, so any help with ideas of who and what to look for in the Zürich scene would be ace.

Thanks!

Re: DJing in Zürich

Tillate is a site which has a lot of information about parties and upcoming events. http://ch.tilllate.com/en/all on the events and flyers you'll see a lot of the promoters and I would suggest contacting some of them. There's also a whole sections about promoters http://ch.tilllate.com/en/promoters?ref=navigation-calendar-promoters and I think you can register yourself as an artist.

I did some Djing in Zurich in the past, but bottom line you need to build your network, get to the clubs, make friends with the promoters and DJ's.
Just my thoughts...

Re: DJing in Zürich

Awesome! Thanks for links Lee. This is definitely something I was looking for.

As far as needing to build a network, I know this is truly how to rise up and get regular gigs and build a following. It's like that in any city around the globe. I guess I was just more curious as to who is doing what and when. I'm not that driven to spend all this time and effort hanging around the clubs every weekend getting to know the regulars and promoters, just to land my self a few gigs. I really don't want to be the next big thing in Zürich. It just would be nice to play a couple of slots here and there. I can take it or leave it.

I appreciate the reply and will delve into that site for more info.

Cheers!

Re: DJing in Zürich

Im from Montreal and I wish it was that easy in Zurich but for good music it seems like the city has a very tight scene with only two clubs that play good music on a regular basis (Hive & Zukunft). Don't even know of any bars/clubs that play good music outside of techno but would love to find some.

Then just target one club or one promotor at a time.

cheers

Re: DJing in Zürich

Hi,

I just moved to Zurich, and I am also trying to find contacts/network my way to get some gigs. I am playing house/electro/progressive, but anything thing would be fun really.
I know that this post is from before new year, but did anyone find anything in the meantime?

Cheers,

Olivier

Hey Olivier! Welcome to Zürich.

I haven't gone out to any nights since arriving to Zürich. I've been working on setting up our flat and my wife is quite pregnant ATM so it just doesn't feel like the time to go out schmoozing promoters at nightclubs till the wee hours of the morning.

What I have been doing is keeping my ear to the ground about events and who's coming to town. Zürich seams to have a very healthy nightlife for electronic music lovers. I've noticed heaps of excelent acts are coming to town on a regular like, Magda, Ben Klock, Len Faki, The Hestle Audio Crew (Pearson Sound, Ben UFO, Pangaea) Kingdom, Matthias Tanzmann, Malente, etc... Subb-an is going to be at Hive on the 28th. Jackmaster at the Numbers crew are going to be at Hive as well on Feb 24th. HUGE night IMO.

I checked out http://ch.tilllate.com/en/all which Lee had suggested to me. While it is a good source for a list of clubs and promoters in the city, I found the site for the most part is set up as a kind of dating site for nightclub patrons. Plus the events that get covered on a regular basis seam to be of the more mainstream variety. Now if the variety of house/electro/progressive you play is along the Afrojack, Swedish House Mafia, Deadmau5 tip, then I think that site would be a great place for you to connect with people. If you're brand of house/electro/progressive is more along the lines of Maceo Plex, Henry Saiz, John Digweed, then I'm not sure if that's the spot.

I'd also check out http://www.residentadvisor.net/ which is a great resource for the more underground type of events. This is where I get most of my info about upcoming events. You can set your region to be Switzerland and will get updates about CH events and even search members in your area to connect with and befriend.

So the long of the short of it, tillate is more of the bar scene and doesn't seam too geared towards the music. Resident Advisor more towards the music.

Hope this helps!

So I just have to geek out here and ask a few questions.

What type of prog/electro/house are you playing? Who are your favourite DJs and producers?

Do you produce? What software do you use?

What medium do you use to DJ? Vinyl? CDJs? Controller? DVS?
