Re: Where to watch Super Bowl 2012?

Somewhat related now that we are talking about Sports only popular in North America: why do they insist in calling it the "World Series" when the teams come only from two countries (at most)? It's also noteworthy that the real Baseball World Cup is most of the times won by Caribbean teams.

Because it was originally sponsored by a newspaper called "The World". It's not supposed to be indicative of who can take part.

As much as I appreciate truth stopping lazy America-bashing, this is unfortunately inaccurate:

You can watch Super-Bowl 2012 on BBC2 at midnight on Swisscom. You can easily record it with your cable box and watch it Monday. I think it includes all the ads too if you are really homesick!

Indeed, from 12AM-5AM!

That a one-hour game gets stretched to five is one reason I no longer watch this stuff!

Re: Where to watch Super Bowl 2012?

Well, not too many quality leagues outside of the US and Japan. Cuba and Venezuela produce great players but not a lot of league play. But the MLB does attract players from all over the world (at least 17 countries).

But it would be cool to see the World Series winner play against int'l teams in something more serious than the World Baseball Classic.

And with int'l basketball getting stronger, would be great to see some int'l squads joining the NBA, though logistics would be tough.

Getting ready to watch the SUPERBOWL now... Go Pats!

PS - TO keep on topic, you can go to: https://gamepass.nfl.com/nflgp/secure/packages
A bit pricey, but you can watch it whenever you want.

For anyone wanting to watch it in Zurich or north Zurich I saw a flyer in Cheyenne in Oerlikon advertising showing it tonight - with free nachos from midnight

I have no problem with the winner of MLB's postseason calling themselves "world champion." ln my opinion, the NHL should not have given up the right to call their champion that, and I have seen old Canadian clippings lauding the winner of the Stanley Cup as "world champion." Call me arrogant, but I prefer to hear the phrase "world champion" rather than "Super Bowl Champion", "NBA Finals winner", or "World Series champion."

And although considering how much talent there is between Europe and South America, calling the winner of one soccer league "world champion" would be even more ridiculous---I strongly suspect many of the same fans who criticize Americans for calling their champions "world champions" would not have a problem if Barclay's Premiere League followed in America's footsteps.

Re: Where to watch Super Bowl 2012?

BTW, I may be dead wrong on this, but I strongly suspect that the NFL wants to get a foothold in Europe and have the Super Bowl in Wembley Stadium in London sometime in the future. I also think the NFL may put an expansion team in London sometime in the future.

The game isn't one hour---a regular season game is about two. But there are a lot of pre-game introductions, and don't forget the halftime show is a half hour long now. They want to cram in as many commercials as possible that the network can possibly sell.

Yes, but technically there are four 15 minute quarters.

Re: Where to watch Super Bowl 2012?

If anybody plans to go to a Swiss sports bar to watch the Super Bowl, please remember to tip your server well. They probably aren't happy to be up at the crack of dawn just for you.
