Mandir vs Indian Tandoori Palace - Basel

Popping up to Basel tomorrow afternoon with Mrs and Jr CC to sift through the ashes of our new house (long story, some of you may remember!) to see if we will EVER move in and will pop out for a minor celebration meal afterwards and I get to choose the cuisine....yipee!

Given where said new house is, I see that both of these Indian places are close by and in a straight fight between the two, which one would you locals choose? Mandir seemed to score well in the other threads I searched out here, but they weren't "forced preference" questions Also, both score pretty well on Trip Advisor

Final question is a bit specific - are either of them unsuitable for a pram? I actually fancied Aladin for Lebanese food, but figured that we'd need to leave Tiny by the tram stop if we went there!

Thanks

I like Mandir. Not been to Tandoori Palace. Aladdin is OK but nothing special (which is pretty good for Basel!).

Did you have any issues with your pushchair in Mandir?

You won't go too far wrong with either - I'd pick based on the style of food.

Indian Tandoori Palace serves more UK-style Punjabi food, whereas Mandir tends towards Southern Indian dishes with some nice fish selections and the option of the ayurvedic menu. I found the service at Mandir more friendly, but they managed to get my order correct at the Palace

Mandir certainly isn't the roomiest place, but I imagine it's big enough for a pushchair all the same (assuming it's not one of those offroad Hummer prams with emergency rusk silo and bull bars). The Tandoori Palace has got a bit more space.

You can't go wrong with either but I would probably go for tandoori palace with a pushchair.

Good luck tomorrow with the apartment stuff.

Thanks. Was April, then June, then August, now October! Sold our house for an August move so Trois Rois for two months (their expense) might be in order

Honestly? With a pushchair? Depending on the time it can get quite busy, especially on a Friday.

I await the thread tomorrow from a disgruntled EF member moaning about a rude family blocking a restaurant up with their entourage.

Opening time - 1730 is the plan if that changes anything?

Re: Mandir vs Indian Tandoori Palace - Basel

Presumably said pushchair folds (Though hopefully a little smaller than ours which is still the size of a mini moke when folded)

Besides. It's right next to the tram stop. Worst case shove it* in the tram and wait for it to come round again.

*The tram/pushchair that is. Not the young 'un.

You might be alright then. I imagine it won't get too busy until later.

Are they open at 17.30pm? Shows how long it's been since we went out for a curry.

Well, if someone hadn't broken our nice compact one, the "tank" would still be in the basement

If we spot a couple canoodling in the corner, we'll pop over and say hi!

We'll be the ones with the PRAM (not pushchair) getting glared at!
