Best Chinese Buffet... Ever... (well, near Basel)

So.. you need a car to get there (or be prepared for a decent cycle ride)...but..

Really good 'all you can eat' buffet, plus a fantastic 'Mongolian BBQ' style service (Teppanyaki)- you load a plate with raw meat or fish/seafood and/or veg/rice/noodles and then they cook it whatever sauce(s) you want

An unbelievable 8.80 eur for lunch, mon to friday... bit more in the evening.. bit more than that at the weekend... (think it's about 15 Eur max)

Trounces any other 'Chinese' I've ever come across in and around Basel

Re: Best Chinese Buffet... Ever... (well, near Basel)

The website seems to be down, but there are some reviews on tripadvisor along with the address to the place.

http://www.tripadvisor.de/Restaurant...rttemberg.html

Edit: Don't be put off by the last bad review on tripadvisor, as the user doesn't seem to understand the concept of cheap buffet food. This place seems alright and I will certainly give it a try.

Re: Best Chinese Buffet... Ever... (well, near Basel)

I went there a few months ago, and was very disappointed - the place just couldn't cope with the number of visitors. Getting a drink to go with the food took us over an hour, and the fresh Teppanyaki stir-fry took another hour. The buffet itself was nowhere near as good as similar places I've been elsewhere.

We spent most of the meal thinking of better Chinese restaurants to go to next time, which sort of tells its own story.

Maybe it's better on weekdays, but I definitely wouldn't go back at the weekend.

I'm so pleased to hear that this place is still going, and still good. Went there quite a few times in my first year here (2000), when I was living in Riehen. They didn't do the Mongolian BBQ thing (there was one in Riehen itself though) but the buffet, which we only did of an evening, was always excellent.

OK, but I am put off by all the other reviews. All describe it as bland, fried, non-authentic food at a great price.

I can do that easily at home

Don't copy the copious quantities of cheap cooking oil

Certainly, however IMO many of us do crave some bland, fatty, greasy non-authentic pseudo Asian food once in a while.

I didn't realise KFC had Asian origins.

Forget that place, this is by far the best Chinese/Asian buffet we have found, just over the border in Laufenberg.

8.90 Euro all you can eat, and it is really, really good. Never once disappointed and there has never been a crowd. Then go shopping at the Aldi down the street on your way back to CH.
