Re: Cinema films in English

Last night I went to see "Night Train to Lisbon" http://www.cineman.ch/en/movie/2013/...gNachLissabon/
The cinema was full! Possibly because it is portrayed in Portugal with the story beginning in Bern, and locally we have many Portuguese and Bernese citizens.

This film must be recommended to anyone that is tired of violence and sex in the cinema. There is a little bit of both, but as a part of the story, (And not just to sell the subsequent DVDs) http://www.cineman.ch/en/movie/2013/...gNachLissabon/

The story is about a Swiss professor teaching in Bern, whom rescues a would be suicidal young woman. The professor finds, and reads her book, and decides to investigate her background. The story quickly moves to the young woman's country of Portugal, and the villagers' reluctance to discuss their part in the uprising against the Portuguese dictatorship in 1974 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Movimen...3%A7as_Armadas

I saw "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" this week in Bern, in English.

Stunning photography in Greenland, Iceland and Afghanistan.

Very funny, and as before no sex or violence in the story.

Thanks; though this thread began with "Breaking Dawn"-- nice to have your recommendations. Any others? I'm waiting for "Her" to be released...

Re: Cinema films in English

There a little gem of a cinema in Freienstein, a little to the north of the Emrbach and the airport.
The building is a stylishly converted factory, with a bar right inside the cinema and you can choose to see films (mostly in their original language) from a cinema seat or - with a glass of wine - from a cafe style setup with table and chairs.

On Fridays you can opt for a three-course meal inside the cinema (to be booked beforehand) and in the summer an outdoor cinema takes place (reserve a beach chair and blanket in time!). You'll think yourself in Italy.

No, I'm not the owner and have no shares invested. I just absolutely love this hidden treasure.

Is their English movies in Kino outside of Zurich?

I used to go to the Dietlikon Pathe but last time I checked they were none...did they reduce or was I just checking at the wrong time?

I love this movie!!! Was happy to see again Lena Olin, albeit in a short role, it's been a while since I've seen her in a movie.

I think it just may have been the wrong time. I do searches for English with cineman.ch as others have noted and usually one turns up there.

But, if you are up for a trip to Zurich, Abaton (near Hardbruke) seems to consistently have English versions running, and Corso (near Bellevue) almost always has one running as well.

During the summer, Orange Cinema has an outdoor theater on the lake with some English selections. If you are interested, the listing comes out on June 27 this year. Tickets for the popular movies go quickly, but it is great fun.

I went to see the film The Imitation Game, a true story about breaking the German military codes during WW2. I found it very enjoyable, it wasn't very technical, but enough to keep one's interest. Not much violence, nor bad language, nor sex, so it gets an age 8 rating. You can take your Grandmother to see it!

Scroll down & look for your town, and the letters Edf for an English soundtrack.

To add to the deepness of the film version read "The Turing Story" - a biography written by Alan Turing's mother.

After watching Nicky Cambells program this morning, I was wondering if any one knows when Spotlight will be released here in the CH. Trolled the web, and can't seem to find the answer(?). It's already out in the GB.

Ta in advance y'all

Film Brooklyn

I saw this film in English in Bern, a story set in the 1950's about a young Irish woman emigrating to New York, then visiting her mother in Ireland, and being pulled between the USA and Ireland.
