Rosti in Zurich

We have friends in town. I know it's a cliche and all, but we all love rosti. My favorite in Zurich so far is at Brasserie Federal at the HB. I like rosti with bacon and egg and they have a nice version.

But c'mon, this is Switzerland! Where is the great rosti in Zurich? I know Zeughauskeller has rosti as a side dish but it's fairly basic.

Any other recommendations?

Re: Rosti in Zurich

They do a nice rosti at one of the beer halls down the Niederdorf. I can't remember the name of it, but it's got a big sign up outside saying 'DANCING', which you can't miss. It's not far from the little second hand CD shop, about 50 yards down from Central.

It's terribly smoky, but very busy, and full of locals, which is usually a good sign. Cheap and cheerful pretty much sums it up!

I like the cheap Röschti with fried eggs in Marche at the main station... Hey, what are you going to do with this torch and the pitch forks?

Re: Rosti in Zurich

I guess the Niederdorf beer hall is BierHalle Wolf , but you're quite right, the Federal at HB has a great rösti - for me it's about the best i've had in Zurich, and a great beer menu to read whilst you wait...

It's opposite the Wolf.

I wish I could remember the name! I feel a mad urge to go there tomorrow night just to find out (and bang goes my healthy eating programme 2008)...

Re: Rosti in Zurich

That'd be the Rheinfelder then - I spend my first two months in Zurich dining there every night. I just loved watching the people - who said you can't get cheap entertainment in Zurich.

Oooh! Close! It's the one a few yards further up, on the same side.

(This is starting to drive me mad. I'm too young to be forgetting stuff like this!)

Re: Rosti in Zurich

Kronenhalle is famous for its röstis . . . a bit spendy though.

Weisses Kreuz near Stadelhofen Bahnhof doesn't do a bad one either.

My friends and I enjoy Metzgerhalle in Oerlikon. They have a nice selection of röstis for about 15 CHF.
... now I want rösti

Sweet little restaurant, fabulous location.
I think it'd be a great place to take guests.

Re: Rosti in Zurich

One more place that always has rösti on the menu (it's on my list of places to try).
Cute restaurant, great prices for simple classic Swiss food

It could as well be the Rheinfelder Bierhalle at Niederdorfstrasse 76! Try Leberli and Röschti, yummy and not expensive. Or the famous Cordon bleu, jumbo size.

Re: Rosti in Zurich

Was just reading through this as a guest, and thought I'd let you know that the advert at the bottom of the page showed a rather well-rounded lady in a bikini, advertising a weight-loss programme... now how on earth did the algorithm come up with that combination?!
