I hope that they are something like the original line up. As Andy Powell is the only (almost) original member I would be interested to know what they are like now. I haven't seen them for around 25 years. A saw them in 1981 when they included Claire Hammill on vocals. She is living and working near me in England and occasionally plays the local pubs in Hastings. She has also joined them on Fan club reunoins.

I may get to see them in April on their UK tour.

As far as I know current line-up being going for awhile. I have the Live In Hamburg CD, which I like.

You also a fan of CARAVAN? That is my second favourite band, behind or equal to Wishbone Ash.

They are certainly from the right era, but not a group that I am particularly familiar with. Apart from the obvious big name rock bands, Barclay James Harvest is a group that I was quite into. I never got to see them live. They seemed to have a bigger following in mainland Europe, particularly Germany, than the UK. Unfortunately, there are two versions of the band now. One version is touring Switzerland in the summer http://www.barclayjamesharvest.co.uk/tour_dates.htm

Concert was a disappointment. I now have heard some of Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash. Much better live. http://www.wishboneash.co.uk my friend recently saw them in Worthing at the half-brick - they played some of my favourites also like Lorelei & Sorrel.

Now this is my kind of thread. The song of the day thread is terrible for me. I've never heard of any of them :(. Wishbone Ash had two lead guitarists. One played a V. They must be pretty wretched by now. I'm remembering from around 1975, I think. Saw Caravan and Hatfield and the North. Was Claire Hamill not a relative (daughter?) of Peter Hamill, singer of Van de Graaf Generator. They were a really great group. A plague of lighthouse keepers, anyone?

Anyone need someone for their pub quiz team?

I'm off to put some Captain Beefheart on the song of the day :D.

PS What am I offered for a progamme signed by Curved Air from 1972 :msnshock:?

I guess that it was Andy Powell's Wishbone Ash that you saw. I was planning to see them locally next month but perhaps not now. I may go to Martin turner's Wishbone Ash in Worthing next month instead. Wish I lived a little nearer to Worthing. There is a great list of bands at the Half Brick. It looks like you are out of luck for a chance to see them over there. It is a great shame when groups claiming to be the originals still perform under their original name. With only Andy Powell from the original line up they are not really Wishbone Ash I reckon.

Deep Purple,

Yes it was Andy Powell's band. Go see Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash if you can in Worthing, from what I have heard on the internet the voice and sound is much closer to the original band. I have ordered MARTIN TURNER's WISHBONE ASH "New Live Dates Volume 1 & 2" - they do a lot of the songs that I really expected to hear the other night - "Lorelei", "Sorrel" and so on.

If you go, give us your opinion - because I fully intend next time I am in the UK to go and see them.

Dont forget Martin Turner is the only original member too.

The Half Brick sounds so English!
